The reality is that this becomes a danger for you if a cop is around. For instance if you are out target shooting and bring yours along for some fun and have contact with a cop who searches you or your car, sort of like having pot on you, then you are facing criminal charges. If you commit a crime with one then they can up your sentence. it will strip them off the easy to buy areas and if you are caught selling then you are going to jail. Some guys I work with were out target shooting and a cop heard what sounded like fully automatic fire (it wasn't, just several guys shooting similar weapons at the same time)
and came over to check them out. Yeah I can picture folks getting caught if they are out with their soon-to-be-banned bump stocks. But if you are a shooting & weapons enthusiast you would most likely be on top of this.

That is the thing. Heard what sounds like auto fire, or someone reporting auto fire even if it is not illegal, becomes probable cause to search containers that are big enough to contain a bump stock which would include any automobiles in the area and their locked trunks and tool cases. It is like the old smelled weed or liquor excuse. So even if you did not take it out or use it you would open up a pandoras box with police search which could then net some drug busts, illegal weapons, warrant and identity searches (Which would expose any convicted felons in the area to firearm charges and other charges, not to mention any fathers who are owing child support.), and possibly the local property owner also.

Not even that, since it didn't happen.

There's what he succeeded in doing (nothing) and what he tried to do/advocated to be done (quite a lot).

I'm not sure how this line of reasoning is supposed to work. Am I supposed to think better of Obama because he failed to deprive us of Second Amendment rights?

He talked about it a lot, at least during the first half of his first term, but IMHO, the only thing he really put any effort into doing was getting a Universal Background Check passed after Sandy Hook...which failed.

Other than that, it was just, "We've got to do something" after every mass shooting, followed by nobody doing anything.

I still consider myself right of center...especially when it comes to the 2nd Amendment. It's just that Republicans lost their goddamn minds when Obama got elected. I stayed where I was. It was the political spectrum that moved.
