WTF? No thread on this? Amazon has sunk a crap-ton of money into a Lord of the Rings series! https://www.pastemagazine.com/artic...-we-know-about-amazons-lord-of-the-rings.html
As usual, Randall nails it. (I could swear I started a thread on this series when it was announced, but fuck if I can find it.)
Wow. I forgot about this thread. Looking forward to even more hours with a bunch of midgets and magicians doing a lot of walking around and not much else.
Well, that image includes the Two Trees so is clearly from the first age of ME, not the second (in which the series will be set). So I'm guessing it's from some sort of prologue.
I should've checked if there were any casting calls for extras. Years back I missed out on a chance to play a background Uruk hai (advertised for solid build 6 foot plus guys).
For a split microsecond, I keep seeing the title of this thread as "Lord Of The Flies: The Series". Every week, a new batch of kids washes up on the island, and kills each other.
You think Amazon will dial back on the anti-industrializaton vibes of Saruman's clear-cutting and the Scouring?
No, but that scene of dozens of swords being mass-forged will become a Prime conveyor belt and they'll use the Palantirs to note your shopping preferences.
Apparently Amazon has pumped a lot of money into this show and going by that one shot, you can tell. It looks promising.
So, we've got "going to space" and "adventuring in Middle Earth" as things Bezos WILL spend money on, yet he doesn't help build a utopia. So he's rooting for the Federation (Blake's 7, not Trek) and Sauron. I'm looking out for Amazon backing motorcycle gangs against cops in a dystopia Australia next. Plus their attempted reclamation of Cadillac Heights for their Delta City development.
It's set way before that. Jackson mostly ignored that kind of thing too. Tolkien would have hated a lot of the choices he made.
This is all presuming that just because he’s a billionaire, he’s somehow obligated to do shit at all to help humanity, he’s not and I don’t blame him one bit.
No-one's obligated to do shit. You choose to be scum, neutral or good. I can forgive one of those. Guess which?
Anyway, back to the discussion at hand. There seems to be some question as to which time period this new series will be set. It's possible it could be set before the Autobots fled Cybertron. Or not. I'm not sure.
4 million years ago as per G1. So plenty of time for Men to become small, Elves and Dwarves to pass beyond memory, and magic to fade. Hell, we can become small in a scant two centuries.
