His profile would've been raised tremendously, and demands for a higher salary would've been met more receptively.

I read a book a couple of years ago from a homicide detective in Baltimore. The odds of a murderer actually getting convicted after the whole chain of murdering somebody begins is around 25 percent there. First they have to get positively identified as the murderer - then the evidence has to be there before the prosecution will even consider a long involved murder trial - then the jury has to decide their fate. That's a long chain that is broken 75 percent of the time. That's just the reality of the legal/justice system.

Now, I find it telling that conservative media is taking up the mantra that 'hoaxes hurt real victims.' That's true. If you left it at that you'd be correct. This Smollett character is highly unstable and appears to have made many bad choices in his life. His fall isn't going to be pretty. Even his castmates want him gone.

Smollett continues to double down. Reports say he swore to God in front of his co-workers that he didn't perpetrate a hoax.

His mouth is writing checks his body can't cash. He must sense he's finished, and he's holding out for a miracle to get him off the hook.
