Thats me caught up. Really enjoying this so far. Ep 5 - i liked Quarks bar but i cant picture almost comedy quark occupying a place in this much grittier version of trek, would be interesting though. Seven - loved it, i was however a teenager with the big poster on my wall. Really liked her last few scenes including the music score tribute to voyager before she beamed back to the planet. I didnt pick up until i read this thread that Rios deliberatly left her the gadget to go back. Think @AlphaMan Pointed out upthread that the actress who plays Raffi is 54 and a fine wine..... i will raise you Jerri Ryan who just turned 52!!
And this, to me, is the epitome of the problem with Picard. Instead of actually showing the interesting situation of comedy Quark occupying a place in this much grittier version of Trek, they rely on your nostalgia to have you picture it and you give it a pass as something interesting. And it's not.
Just finished episode 5. It was a mixed bag, but overall I liked it. I feel like they kind of missed an opportunity for Picard to give a speech to Seven. I mean he kind of did, but he could have been more forceful. I was thinking, “Captain Ahab has to go hunt his whale” “evolved sensibility” type speech about revenge. I mean, I’m not going to lose sleep over Seven taking out revenge over Icheb, but it would have been nice to have it play out a little different. I’m kind of pissed the killed him off so unceremoniously. I loved Icheb. That conversation between Seven and Picard with the Voyager music really got me. I have a feeling she’ll be back. Raffi and her kid, I almost puked. It’s a tired, played out trope that’s been done a billion times. It is looking like a Borg origin is coming. Red Letter Media may not be far off with their predictions. I do seem to recall in the trailers that there was some mention of possible time travel so it might all hinge on that.
God help us. Some things are just best left unexplained. Next season, we're going to find out why Q was so afraid of Guinan.
Perhaps you should see a doctor. What trope is that, exactly? A mother alienating her son after losing her career, becoming obsessed with a conspiracy theory, and developing a drug addiction? Care to cite some of these billions of examples?
Deadbeat dad/mom who’s addicted to something, neglected their child and wants to reconnect after several years have passed, has a grandchild that may reconnect them, but the son/daughter wants nothing to do with them because they felt abandoned and pretty much wants them to go away only to eventually reconcile in the end. It’s predictable. Recent example; The Force Awakens., Rise of Skywalker.
Han Solo was not a drug addict, and nothing suggests he ever neglected Ben. Ben went to the dark side after Luke fucked up. Also, you promised billions of examples. That's just one.
No, you almost puked because of the tired played out trope that's been done a billion times. That's what you said. Can you back that up, or were you just making shit up/parroting things you saw elsewhere?
Something i didnt think of initially..... watch the way Picard looks at 7 when she asks for 2 phaser rifles. Maybe he knows whats coming. This is still Captain god dam Picard. He's not daft. He may have just left this vigilante to get her revenge.
I would have liked this scene to have had Picard and Seven be able to hear whispers from each other, similar to what we heard when Picard could still hear the Borg in First Contact.
Sitting in a very boring meeting today my mind went wandering - a bit of a nitpic, but why give the big henchman guy all the buildup about being a badass and then take him out with a phaser in the back? Surely we could have seen legolas do some hand to hand combat or something more than standing about looking dumb.
Just to add to my point..... Why didnt Picard read the riot act to Rios for killing the henchman? Does killing = bad only apply to Legolas?? None of the above is a real whine by the way, im really enjoying the show
Final point, ep4, just when Picard is getting lectured off the Romulan ex senator, the camera kept flashing to the same old guy in the crowd. Will he be important later? Its a shame its not the 5 lights Romulan.
Picard is smart enough to not lecture the captain of the ship he needs, but smug enough to lecture someone he still sees as a child or a subordinate.
I always wondered what happened to Commander Tomalak. He crossed paths with Picard a few times in TNG. Most notably in the episode The Defector. It was Tomalak who lured The Enterprise D into the Neutral Zone and threatened to parade the hollowed out carcass of the D throughout the Romulan Empire after he defeated Picard in combat. Come to think of it, Nemesis should have been about him and not some retconned Picard clone.
I gave you an example. That you don't accept it is not my problem. Are you a writer for the show because you sure do get butthurt whenever anyone points out certain problems with the show?
One example, and a bad one at that. Yet you claimed there were a billion examples. It's okay to just admit your empty hyperbole. I promise no one will think any less of you than they do now.
So you're just going to sit there and lie and pretend you've never seen this trope? If it's an original idea, how can I predict exactly what's going to happen?
