This seems to confirm a theory I've had for a long time, that being that they haven't been planning the seasons out.
There's also some SNW details, but not much.

If this is true and lord knows I don't trust Goldsman, but if they really are changing the look to match closer to TOS and if they really are making the tone of the show closer to TOS then I think I will like this show much better. It sounds to me that we're going to see a lot more of the interior of the Enterprise which is to be expected.

Is Robert Meyer Burnett a fascist because he's friends with your buddy John Campea? Do you believe Campea would be friends with a fascist? Say what you want about Doomcok or the others, but do you really believe RMB is a fascist because that's the guy I watch and he's been a solid critic of NuTrek since 2009.

And he hated DS9 back in the day.
    He's just hard to please.
Sci-Fi Channel had a panel show in the 90's, and he was on it, and I have an extraordinary memory.

TOS die hards are hard to please. Do you remember the hate TNG got at first? I started off with TOS and the TOS movies. I didn't get into TNG until the third season. I hated the premise of DS9 in the beginning, but around the fourth season, I started liking it. When Voy was annouced I was excited because I wanted to get back to exploration, they disappointed me quite a bit.I don't absolutely hate NuTrek, but I think it suffers from lack of planning, little knowledge of previous shows and not knowing how to fit Trek into modern serialization and story arcs. They have the blueprint though with DS9, but they still can't seem to hit the mark.

That's a shocking interview from Goldsman. Imagine being a professional involved in producing a show like this, with plentiful money and resources yet admitting that you had to "learn" to think the story through in advance.

I liked quite a lot of Picard, but that explains a lot and it doesn't bode well.

I think they use script generators or they come up with a general idea and just kind of fill in the gaps as they go. It would explain a lot. It's possible though that the pandemic forced them to do things the right way and we might be better off for it because they might have a more cohesive story this time.

Samuel L. Jackson has said that he's had to butt heads with studio execs a number of times because they didn't know much about the process of making a good film. According to him, they wave around their Ivy League degrees and ignore the fact that he's been in over 80 movies, and then quickly move on to another profession a few years later.

Um, the documentary on the Picard Blu-Ray showed the writer's room, and they diagramed the structure of the season as a flow-chart on a marker board FIRST.
I literally saw that happen with my eyeballs.
I dunno what parallel universe Goldsman was in.

When you really think about it, the Picard writers had a messy challenge that I don't envy.

    1. You have to tie up all the loose ends left by Nemesis.
    2. You have to tie up the loose ends of the future scenes of Star Trek '09, and make it work with Nemesis.
    3. You have to pick up where Voyager left things.
    4. Patrick Stewart himself wanted a better ending for Data, so they had to make him happy.
    5. They didn't know if there'd even be a second season, so 1-4 had to be crammed into season 1. In 10 episodes.
    6. Because of 1-5, you're dealing with Romulans, androids, Borg, and a corrupted Federation that let Romulus die, and you've gotta make all of that work together as a cohesive story. Again, in 10 episodes.
    7. Oh, and you gotta figure out how PICARD weaves all that together, cuz he's your title character!

I think they did as well as human beings could be expected to.
Now that the Nemesis/ST09 stuff is cleared away, they can have fun now.

They would have definitely had a plan for where it was going to go, but it's pretty clear both from the final product and the threads not followed through on the first season that they made a bunch of big changes along the way.

I'm reasonably sure that there are interviews out there which confirm they hadn't even decided to have Riker and Troi in the show when they started filming.

Dorn said that they didn't offer him enough $ last time, so I could see him doing LD for less $ since he wouldn't have to wear the makeup.

Probably voice work but if they did convince him to put on the makeup again, one way to do that would be to canon-ize his idea for the Worf series (not promise him the series at all but write his version of "present day Worf" into the story.
