The extreme case being one individual with vast resources to raise hundreds of children in luxury whilst everyone not directly associated with them lives in mud growing turnips. Oh, wait, we've been there. It's called monarchy.
I've worked in both the public and private sectors, and believe me when I say that the private sector definitely pays better and actually has better benefits. The myth of public service "golden egg" is just that. However, I will say that public sector workers definitely do not put in the same amount of hours or effort as the private sector. On the flipside, large private sector companies can often be even more bureaucratic and inefficient than government agencies. But that's just my experience. YMMV.
I just threw that out there. I honestly have no idea what UA's salary is. I do know he lives very frugally whereas I spend money faster than I can make it. For all I know, he could be hoarding thousands of dollars a month - which is what my ex-husband used to do.
This by way of Yahoo Financial News: Nick Bunker, economic research director at Indeed, said in a note published earlier this week that the huge number of workers put on temporary layoff during the pandemic flatters headline jobless data and also depresses the number of workers looking for jobs. "Only 33% of workers on temporary layoff in March 2021 were looking for a job," Bunker notes. "Now, that number is almost twice the share of furloughed workers searching in March 2020 (17%) but it still means a significant number of unemployed workers aren’t actively looking for a job. This could be part of the reason why many employers seem to be having a hard time finding new employees. Many unemployed workers are still attached to their former jobs... In other words, the group of workers least likely to search these days may be the most likely to quickly return to work." (Emphasis ours). And so while data through March showed that overall employment in the U.S. was about 8 million below the February 2020 pre-pandemic high water mark, this data does not fully capture the dynamic Bunker is exploring. A dynamic that indicates a significant chunk of that total employment shortfall will be filled by still-attached workers returning to their jobs.
It's s much more important (and enjoyable) to punish them than to help them no matter the cost. The cost differential is worth paying. Teach 'em a lesson, dontcha know?
While I agree that the "golden egg" stuff is largely mythical (my pay and benefits are okay, but I could definitely be making a LOT more money in the private sector), the bureaucratic insanity of a government job is mind-bending. And since I too have worked both sides of the aisle, I know whereof I speak. Maybe it's just cuz I work for DoD, but OMG the sheer nonsense I have to put up with . . .
Which will be very few indeed if companies are basing their pay structures entirely on what they can get away with. In other news criminality goes through the roof as people struggle to make ends meet in a consumer driven society by legal means.
Good for whom? Society, nation states, economies, corporations, governments, all of these things exist to serve a purpose and that purpose is to further the interests of humanity. We created them for our ends one way or another, not to be in servitude to them. If they are not achieving that somehow or, worse, working against that goal they don't deserve to exist. If the whole structure of employment for monetary gain as a means of survival is failing then people will look elsewhere. You will see criminality, dissident groups, civil unrest, the whole gamut of behaviour shown by the dispossessed. What you won't see is millions of people deciding to live on the breadline and stay childless because your own personal ideology doesn't accommodate them deciding to follow their ingrained instincts during the one shot at life on this planet. Marginalise enough people and society crumbles every time. Rightly so.
Great. Let it crumble. I'm still not paying for your crotch fruit just because you like to pretend you deserve a lifestyle you cannot afford.
I do no such thing. I've been in either employment or education for all but two weeks of my adult life, I'm doing hunky dory thanks. Without all those minimum wage workers though I'd be interested to see what sacrifices you'd be willing to tolerate on your lifestyle Who would clean the streets? Serve you in shops? Man the warehouses? How do you imagine all those people you cannot live your current life without would feel if you told them they shouldn't reproduce because it's more important their employer maxes out every possible dollar of revenue?
You're not paying for crotch fruit, you're paying for the next fistful of caviar in some rich fuck's porky fucking face. Stop falling for the okey-doke.
Anyone else remember how much @Uncle Albert bitched and whined when people talked about the subsidies for his suburban lifestyle and he justified it as status quo and because it ‘served [him]’? I remember. https://wordforge.net/index.php?thr...and-way-over-budget.94186/page-3#post-2338405 https://wordforge.net/index.php?thr...and-way-over-budget.94186/page-4#post-2338733
He also has no issue with the state awarding all sorts of privileges to corporate investors. Because reasons.
UA would rather humanity fucked off and died. But as long as he can't Q-snap that into happening, he'll target those lower than him on the scale, because punching up takes courage.
What kind of faulty mental organ equates refusing to pay for your bad decisions with "targeting" you? If anything, it's the other way around. Insisting on the right to behave irresponsibly at someone else's expense targets your benefactors.
You made the bad decision to not become a software magnate. Therefore -- and I hate to break this to you -- there's a pretty good chance that you consume more in publicly funded services than you pay toward them.
This is pretty funny considering how much you like to call out programs as evil socialism that can't work in the real world of glorious capitalism. How long do you think a rapidly aging and dropping society would last before those structures entirely collapse?
There is no problem whatsoever with anyone wanting and doing that for himself. The problem is when you unilaterally decree that it can and should apply to all others, without being in their situtation.
