No, that’s not what any of those are saying. Equity takes into account all leading factors. Such as my size, my ability to lift … more than a … bowling ball. It takes into account your abilities. It takes into account all factors and attempts to all me to gain experience and build muscle with detracting from your natural abilities. I would think that as much as you rant against forced equality, that equitable treatment is preferable. But, if you only wish to oppose because OMG someone might get an inch ahead without consulting you…, then … I guess there’s no reason to continue the conversation.
Cornered by a point, pivot and deflect, then lob a petty insult on the way back into your clown car. I am on record as supporting the taxation of investment income the same as wage income, as well as opposing corporate and bank bailouts. But if I don't mention it EVERY FUCKING TIME, your stunted mental organ takes that as an escape route. I don't know why I bother engaging. Next, "Well your ratio of saying this versus saying that is.." Just fuck off.
It might in the generic sense, but this is not the generic sense. This is a thread about critical race theory. No. Equal treatment without undermining merit by guaranteeing outcomes is preferable. That was never my point and is not supported by anything I said.
Okay, let's bring it back to CRT. Y'know why a lot of billionaires are rich? Their grand-pappies got rich off slavery. Y'know why we know that? CRT. Y'know why the right-wing wants CRT to go away? So kids won't know that, and the status-quo can grind on forever. Y'know how the status quo ended up the status quo? Because libertarianism doesn't work. You've devoted your entire life to folly. How does it feel? Knowing you've devoted your life to folly? Does it feel hot and suffocating like being baked inside a giant brownie? A brownie that tastes like ashes in your mouth?
(Director's commentary) I dunno, the image of UA inside a giant brownie actually came to me first, and then the rest of the post reverse-engineered from there.
So …, what? Race should not be a factor in “equitable treatment”. You may have learned about slavery while in school, but did you learn about every law and every atrocity perpetrated to ensure white supremacy in this country? And do not even attempt to deny that because there are still laws on the books that were designed specifically to prohibit minorities from gaining equality, let alone the means to get ahead in any area of society. That is exactly what “equality” does. Equity is the word you are looking for to make this statement accurate. No, but that is what you are implying. I know that’s not what you mean, but that is what is implied.
Great, I'm on board with giving people life skills. But how do they get all that from public schools if you deny them access?
fucking hell my brain wants to leap out and splatter UA's post. https://www.dictionary.com/e/equality-vs-equity/
except he's right. did you read it diac? An equitable serving of pie might be greater for one person than another. sigh...
Schools should definitely be teaching practical skills like that, however they are also the types of learning that are expensive, requiring lots of space, resources, and a good staff:students ratio. Glad to hear that UA is fine with the funding being provided to allow that. However it's also a fact that just teaching students what they would need for working in currently available jobs is only a part of what they need to learn. Critical thinking and many areas of teaching that seem non-productive initially are actually the first steps in helping students find their future path.
Anyone who shows up and performs well enough to not get fired deserves a living wage. If they're able to perform the duties for which they've been hired to their employers satisfaction, why should how "helpless" or "useless" they are outside of their work hours matter when it comes to setting their pay? And if they're not "employable," why are they somehow still employed?
This is why I try to remember to self medicate before reading his posts. Drugs are my crutch thast keeps my brain from killing itself from dealing with the idiocy of humanity. I tried for many years to cope, and drugs were the answer. I always love when stupid people make assumptions about why I use drugs. It is how I figure out how many more drugs I need so that my eyeballs do not burst forth from my head and strangle a bitch with my optic nerves. Funny enough the pills are actually red so survival means I have to red pill myself.
I'm more interested in an honest, detailed disclosure of how ENDING this "status quo" would be undertaken. Telling little kids they are evil won't get it done.
Being honest with kids is more the point I think. The problem which can't be overlooked is that the US (and the British Empire before it) was absolutely built off slavery. We can ignore that fact, sure, but would you want to add dishonesty to the list?
So you're just gonna hang onto the Fox News strawman like grim death, and then expect to be taken seriously? And you wonder why I give you the Bugs Bunny vs Elmer treatment.
Telling them they are racists who benefit from unearned privileges IS basically telling them they are evil.
When you were a child in school and taught slavery, did you feel like the teacher was telling you that you were evil? I know I didn't. It's the same as CRT. It just presenting facts. It is what it is. No one is telling anyone that they are evil. Well, that's not true. Actual white supremacists will tell you that that is what CRT is so that you will reject any facts presented.
If Hannibal serves human to his party guests, and they eat it, are they evil? Or is Hannibal? Spoiler, it's Hannibal. CRT is just telling kids "hey, that's people, might wanna spit it out".
See, this drives me crazy, for someone like UA who believes to the marrow of his bones he's not racist, he sure greedily gobbles up white supremacist talking points. I've been there. I swallowed the Gamergate okey-doke. But I snapped out of it. But I got roped in, because there were fucking scientists and intellectuals on that team. People who fucking read. The right-wing doesn't have intellectuals. Just Fox talking heads, and meatheads like Joe Rogan. The fascist answer to Andy Rooney. At best. Some are pro-wrestling manager level cartoonish. There's no "distinguished man of letters" coming up the pike for anti-CRT. How the fuck are you getting roped in by meatheads??
I've tried to explain before how humans process things here, psychologically. To which Anna decided that meant I was ... I don't making excuses or something. The thing is, most people are not racist. The older you are when you learn something new, the more difficult it is to be distanced from it. So, as an adult, learning your ancestors did vile things, you take that personally. It's something people just need to be aware of. But, by and large, most people aren't evil.
