Is anyone surprised that the 2021 Tokyo Olympics are already turning out to be one giant clusterfuck? Does anyone even care?
Holding the 2021 Olympics in the midst of a global pandemic is a tragic act of hubris. This can't end well.
2020 Olympics. Apparently we must maintain the fiction that they happen 4 years apart or the timeline collapses and giant Pokemon eat our naughty bits (and not in the fun way).
I checked my copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and it defines the IOC as "a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.”
Major sporting associations and tournaments have always been about abusing athletes for profit, but the last few months have really made those abuses obvious. :/
The Japanese authorities and the IOC seem to be taking rather robust protective measures, so it should turn out okay. I think the world needs this after the past 18 months we've had.
The weird part about it, is that in ancient Athens, the difference between amateur vs professional athletes was non existent. In fact, the word 'athlete' itself in latin means ... combined words to mean competing and prize. Whoever won, won huge monetary prizes and, later, included a "pension" such as a meal every day for the rest of their lives - and that pension became more ... robust(?) over the years. So, insisting the modern Olympic competitors to not be paid while the Olympic committee and the host city and everyone and their brother is profiting EXCEPT the athlete, is the very epitome of modern capitalism.
It's not just the money, it's stuff like forcing female athletes to compete in bikinis, or forcing Naomi Osaka to talk to the press when she wants to avoid them for her mental health, or banning runners for cannabis (how is that performance enhancing?), or banning cis women with too much natural testosterone, or forbidding Serena Williams from wearing a catsuit after having a baby. Not to mention all the rapey coaches and sports doctors.
... I'd have to modify that to be - if the city builds the stadium, the city owns the team, not an individual or other corporation. Then, any proceeds go into the city's revenue, thus reducing taxes.
Those were made years ago, were they not? If they were an issue, how was he chairman in the first place?
Not owned by the city, but by public stockholders. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Bay_Packers,_Inc.
That's a big part of it, but the uniform stuff is unnecessary to that. It just feels like old men trying to control young women's bodies just because they can.
Sex sells. I agree that it’s wrong. I’ve been fighting that shit longer than … probably longer than you’ve been alive. But, it doesn’t change the fact that corporations (Hollywood, Marvel, DC, and all other story tellers) dress women scantily so that creepy old men will buy their stuff.
So of course, if you abolish any relevant binding regulations (of the European Handball Federation, not an Olympic committee, you fucking bullshitters), no female competitors will choose to wear bikinis.
What the fuck are you babbling about now? They should be able to wear whatever the fuck they feel comfortable wearing. Right now they're not, and that's what I'm complaining about.
If the uniform changes, and they choose to continue playing on the team, then, no, they cannot choose to wear bikinis while playing for the team.
Right now where? Because I was only able to turn up the Norwegian Women's Handball team being fined by the European Handball Federation, not an Olympic committee, for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms. Everyone else in the Olympics seems to be wearing what they want. So where else are they not, and how is it being enforced?
Whatever team. If any team says “this is the uniform”, an individual player does not get to choose to wear something else.
