Okay, here's the Prodigy panel. The teaser-trailer is buried in at time index 28:12 I keep waiting for someone to slice it out, but they're taking forever. I snagged an image of the Prodigy ship. It looks like the Odyssey class Enterprise-F from the novels and games, but with JJ-Prise nacelles. https://memory-beta.fandom.com/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(NCC-1701-F) Heeeyyyy...what if it WAS Enterprise-F, and there's some other reason the show is called Prodigy?
Ehh, it doesn't look that much like your F. Closer to the F than the E sure, but that's just the RL drift in design sensibilities at work.
Trying to adapt Kelvinverse warp technology onto a Primeverse ship sounds like a great way to get that ship crashed on the other side of the galaxy.
Trek Today got a better screen grab of the ship, and it's the USS Protostar, NX-76884. https://trekmovie.com/2021/07/23/wa...rek-prodigy-is-gorgeous-and-reveals-the-ship/
Aha! There's the canon link! In VOY: Life Line, Starfleet sent two deep space vessels to rendezvous with Voyager in 5-6 years. That episode happened in 2377. 6 years after that would be 2383. Guess what's the exact start date of Prodigy? Yep. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Life_Line_(episode) That's why there's holo-Janeway. Protostar was supposed to be the "welcome home" ship for the Voyager crew.
If they're already that far out, I'd assume those deep space vessels were glorified unmanned probes that Voyager would be free to use for parts and antimatter supplies. I can't see Starfleet assigning people to sleeper ships like the Klingons, unless they're a bunch of weirdos that specifically asked for the job.
It's a fucking teaser. Did the Lower Decks season 1 teaser blow you away? Hey, we can actually check! Yeah, you hated Mariner. So much so, you couldn't even be bothered to learn her name. Now you love the season 2 trailer.
They are definitely appealing to a far smaller subset of Trek fandom if they're basing anything on Voyager.
It's meant for 12-year olds. They'll obviously expect to get older Trek fans watching, but they're not intended as the core audience. New ship looks cool. The usual tech geeks at TBBS have already estimated it may only be about 60m long given the scale of the bridge window, which would put her about 3x larger than a runabout. That could fit for a smaller crew.
I just call him Salami. OK in small amounts but overall too mild, boring and fatty compared to other options. I haven't seen either of them weigh in on this yet - they may be still enamoured of the Starfleet Procurement Policy document that someone has posted (yes, people go round writing fake admin docs for a fictional organisation).
Color me shocked. At first glance, the Prodigy trailer has a kind of Disney/Pixar feel that I'm not wild about (Lower Decks is stylistically more Seth MacFarlane-esque, and I just generally like that look better) ... but then, I'm not Prodigy's target audience.
Big bridge, Hell yes. Big ship, no. Here we get a good look at the inside, and you can see that big-ass airplane cockpit windshield from the outside.

Chakotay is gonna pop up in Prodigy. https://trekmovie.com/2021/08/15/an...er-star-reveals-star-trek-prodigy-appearance/
Apparently, Beltran has gone anti-vaxxer in between his bouts of bashing Voyager according to a friend who saw a few of his now deleted posts. Of all the characters to bring back from Voyager, why Chuckles? For the J/Cers still crying about being robbed of a ship Kate Mulgrew vetoed as part of her conditions to sign into the show? Boo.
From what I remember of that story T'Bonz told us, he's probably there just to creep on the young female lead.
Yeah, I was hoping he'd died of sadness cancer from being dumped by Seven. Like how he died of sadness cancer when Seven died in the other timeline.
I don't remember that particular story but given who was running Trek at the time, it doesn't surprise me. On that tangent, this passed my timeline on Twitter just now: she's bisexual, Chad. That's a thing one can being the 24th century. Especially when your growth was stunted on account of being assimilated by the Borg and the Voyager dating pool was selective.
