Troggy guy COULD be a Tellarite if you tilt your head a bit - he looks more like one than a Talaxian to me, anyhoo. Robot could just be a mobility unit for a Medusan? There's some sort of swirly energy in the eyepiece.
Paramount sees Prodigy as the seed for a Trek Disneyland. https://trekmovie.com/2021/04/15/vi...s-gateway-to-toys-and-theme-park-attractions/
Kate Mulgrew lays out the plot of Prodigy. But in Prodigy—this new animated series—five kids are incarcerated on an obscure planet in an uncharted part of the galaxy. And they escaped from their imprisonment and race across the planet to find a defunct starship buried in the sand of the of the planet’s surface. They go in and of course the prison guards are coming after them. And they can’t get it up and the shields won’t run or the thing won’t do… And suddenly somebody hits a button and [hologram startup sound] “Hello, kids. I see you’re a little bit stuck here. Can I help you out?” And it’s Captain Janeway in a holographic form. So I think it’s really, really, going to capture the imagination of little kids. And if they can sit with their mothers who watched me in live-action, and their fathers who loved the other guys, then we’ve got a family affair and that that will bring it full circle. Sounds very like a fanfic I once wrote except the kids were human adults from 21st Century Earth spatial-thingy'd to a far-off place, captured by aliens and then finding a derelict (more advanced than the nasty aliens) ship with what seemed to be a brain interface but actually uploaded the guy who tried it (he was mortally injured in the escape anyway hence why he volunteered). And he becomes their "Janeway" because he's now essentially the ship's computer. Of course, I was also ripping off Blake's 7 and smushing it into Voyager saying "kiss, damn you!" myself.
The big character drop finally!! First of all, yes, the "robot" is a Medusan!! Whoever had that theory, collect your no-prize! Star Trek.com isn't letting me save or link images, so here's the link, and I'll try to find an alternate source...'. https://www.startrek.com/news/meet-your-star-trek-prodigy-cast Rylee Alazraqui (“Doug Unplugs,” “Home Economics”) as “Rok-Tahk,” a Brikar and an unusually bright eight-year-old girl. Rok is a bit shy, but not when it comes to her love for animals. Brett Gray (“On My Block,” “When They See Us”) as “Dal,” 17 years old and an unknown species, he fancies himself a maverick, who even in the toughest times, holds strong onto his unwavering hope. Angus Imrie (“The Crown,” “Emma”) as “Zero,” who is a Medusan: a noncorporeal, genderless, energy-based lifeform. Since others would go mad at the sight of their true self, Zero wears a containment suit they made themselves to protect others. Jason Mantzoukas (“Infinite,” “Big Mouth”) as “Jankom Pog,” a 16-year-old Tellarite. Tellarites are known to relish an argument, and Jankom is no different. Regardless of opinion, he will always play ‘devil’s advocate’ for the sake of hearing all sides. Ella Purnell (“Army of the Dead,” “Sweetbitter”) as “Gwyn,” a 17-year-old Vau N’Akat who was raised on her father’s bleak mining planet and grew up dreaming to explore the stars. Dee Bradley Baker (“SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Dora the Explorer”) as “Murf,” whose age and species is unknown but who is an endearing, indestructible blob with curiously good timing and an insatiable appetite for ship parts.
Hmm, it kind of has a Titan AE vibe to it. I wouldn't be against that. Better Titan AE than my original projection of Jimmy Neutron. Also, if that's the bridge of the Prodigy in the first pic, it's gonna be a big ship. It's not a universal rule, but for the most part, the bridges have been in proportion to the ship.
One thing I notice, we don't get a clear idea of their function on the ship. With Starfleet crews, it's more obvious. Captain, science officer, doctor, engineer, etc. Safe to infer Jankom and Rok are essentially the engineers. Gwyn and Dal are clearly our action leads like Riker and Worf. ...who's the doctor? Murf?
None of the characters capture my interest in the least. Still, it's Star Trek... so of course I'm going to give a spin.
It's not necessary that the show needs to fall into a formula, but who are we kidding? I think it interesting that this show seemingly will be the first Trek product that doesn't have a garden-variety human among its cast, let alone as the lead. I assume Gwyn or Dal are the captain and first officer equivalent. Zero is the Spock/Data/Odo/EMH style outsider Jankom and Rok are probably the Worf-style fighters.
David Mack says it's going to be the best new Trek since DS9. More info is gonna drop very soon. Jankom is pronounce Jayn-kum. https://trekmovie.com/2021/06/15/st...erd-out-with-hype-and-tidbits-for-new-series/
The sandy planet 3 images down must be where Prodigy (assuming that's the ship name) is buried per Mulgrew's plot description.
Looks like we're getting the big info-drop at comic-con on July 23rd. The cast will be there, and they'll probably drop a trailer. And that'll no doubt have the release date. Trailer minimum. I'm thinking poster and all the other shit. https://trekmovie.com/2021/07/08/st...y-cast-and-producers-headed-to-comic-conhome/
