I am going to give florida some what of a break here. They have the highest percentage of people who are the most likely to die given their huge elderly population. None of the beach and party goers are the elderly anyway. I see what is being done in their areas daily and they are getting vaccinated and doing social distancing and masking. It is just going to hit this population so much harder because everything hits people in their advanced years harder. Not for nothing, at least a lot of the older people have lived their lives for what it was worth. If they have a cavalier attitude about the vaccine they often know what is coming and may have made their lives what they can. They are the ones who are far less likely to squeeze out a few more years after covid so if they are going to go out in their way I cannot argue. On the other end of the spectrum is the schools, and there is no excuse for what desantis is doing forcing them into unsafe territory. Especially since children under 12 do not have a vaccine ready yet. My nephew is double vaccinated and had corona. He is in high school. It is my neice who is just entering elementary school where there might be a problem. OMG if she dies from something my sister will fucking crack. She still has episodes over her miscarriage that happened before. I do not even want to know what that would look like if ahe had to lose a kid so young because desantis.
But the older population is vaccinated. It's the under 65 set dying this time. And the unvaccinated under 40 set spreading it.
Canada has roughly twice the population of Florida, but Florida has almost twice the number of COVID-related deaths versus Canada. #Florida #Winning
Oh, they are what we call floriduh white trash. Don't worry about them. The only thing they are doing is giving doctors lots of extra practice. They are not that bright, and no one gives a shit about them. They were brought up by the worst white people fleeing their problems in the northeast. Florida is just the dumping ground for people who can't make it in the northeast. Pretty soon they will all be mixed in with all the brownies from the Islands, and in a couple of generations I think you will like what you see coming out of florida. Right now the colors are just starting to merge. I shit on florida a lot, but the kids who go to public school down here. They have everything all around them. I do not know what it is going to bring about, but it will be multicultural. It is down here that I have seen the seeds of hope. This is why I do not get so enraged and fearful. Florida may be a cesspool of human waste, but it is also where a lot of different humans mix together and learn about each other. There is more cultural shit down here than there ever was around me in new york.
The kids across the street set up a lemonade stand in their driveway yesterday. Not sure their father, (who's a local cop!) is taking this seriously.
Did they squeeze the lemons by hand? If not, then there's not enough suffering and psuedo sweat shop flavor. Anything else is a cheat.
Think he meant that for either the Trouble In America/Defund the Police threads. Some racist Karen types called the cops on an 11 year old running a lemonade stand (kid was black). For once, the cops acted sensibly and not only refused to stop him selling lemonade but helped him get a business licence (presumably in his parents' name) and attract some extra business.
Well no, I was assuming y'all would agree that it wasn't entirely safe virus-wise. I got the impression that the family is anti-mask and not taking precautions. But okay, never mind.
I was gonna react poorly to be called that, but, well, you're not entirely wrong. I'm more Oscar than Felix, but I'm not a fan of being sick.
Former Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel (who is running for Senate) praised a waitress for showing up to work sick and slamming "lazy" workers who want to avoid the risk of infection. When he and the restaurant were heavily slammed on Twitter because an infected food worker is the LAST thing you fucking want in a sane world, and the restaurant had to put out a press release saying they were reviewing why she came in. Mandel, of course, doubled down and suggested that maybe they should actually pay her more for coming in! This is the same guy who consistently votes against minimum wage increases. What's the betting the waitress only came in sick because she was scared of losing her less-than-minimum wage job? https://crooksandliars.com/2021/08/josh-mandel-inside-the-five
It could be that I live in a place where it's easy to go outside and keep enough distance from other people that I don't worry about being unmasked. I'm not going to big festivals or farmers markets, though. I don't begrudge people who want to wear masks outside, but I'm not going to raise a stink about a lemonade stand.
The only reason I would be worried in you are drinking the lemonade which might be contaminated. However, I am not masking up outside unless I am in dense crowd. I am talking shoulder to shoulder people around a stage. I am in no way saying you should feel bad for masking up for less, or that your masking up offends me. You do what makes you comfortable. I would even consider masking up outside if a friend was concerned. Otherwise, if it is going to get me hanging around outside in the blowing air, I figure I am doomed at that point anyway. I would also put the mask on around food products outside. I see people riding bikes wearing masks and I really wonder what the fuck, but it is their choice and I am not some karen who is going to go bitching to them.
