    Yeah, that's the other thing.

Republicans : "Lowering taxes will increase tax revenue."

Democrats : "Raising taxes on the wealthy, fixing the infrastructure and letting people work without worrying about being able to afford child care will increase tax revenue."

Which one makes no fucking sense? It's not a trick question.

Forget which one makes no fucking sense ... which one has been disproved in actual practice over and over again, yet people keep insisting on it as gospel?

And now you move the goalposts. First it’s libertarians, now it’s WF libertarians.

Yeah, not a snowball's chance of that happening. I laughed and immediately deleted it. I texted you and Nick because I thought y'all would get a kick out of it.

Trump's increases only matter insofar as it helps illustrate hypocrisy.

But Republicans don't care if they get called out, they know there's no ACTUAL consequences so they do what they want and "haters gonna hate"

Dubious, all parts of it. Going back through the political compass threads, libertarians (lower and righter than, say, (3, -3)*) are quite rare. I'll bold the new additions as they show up.
2007: There's me, Elwood, Fisherman's Worf, Ramen, Spaceturkey, Sherlock Holmes.
2008: Pylades, Ramen, evenflow, Azure, Elwood, me, Daedalus12 (from a previous lost thread).
2009: Zombie, Elwood (probably; broken link, no text), me, Ramen, evenflow.
2010: sandbagger, Ebeneezer Goode, Yaweh (who was that, anyway?), Pylades, me, shootER, Elwood (a guess again).
    2014: just me.
    2017: Federal Farmer, me.

    * Federal Farmer shows up earlier if you set the limit to (2, -2), and I don't believe there are any other changes, so it's a pretty good cutoff, I think. A lot more disappear at (4, -4), and a whole bunch of others show up at (1, -1), but it's hard to consider that anything but centrist.

Fisherman's Worf, Spaceturkey, shootER drifted leftward (back leftward in some cases).

Let's grant Storm by his insistence, and Volpone, Captain X, T.R., and Uncle Albert for shits and giggles. That's 18, out of several hundred members we've had. Paladin never scored below a -2, as far as I can tell, nor (IIRC) has he ever described himself as such, except that he's become "more libertarian over the years". Am I missing anyone?

Storm: "Should polluters pay those whose property is affected by their pollution? Sure."

Ramen: In favor of then (2008)-extant clean air and water regulations, complains about China making symbolic, ineffective regulations against pollution.

Elwood: jail sewage dumpers or fine them "like a quadrillion dollars per ton".

evenflow: seems mostly complained about the ineffectiveness of the EPA and the regulatory capture of it.

Azure: never talked about non-CO2 pollution, and on that he was largely in favor of at-smokestack capture and sequestration.

me: has written on how a more property-based system with improved rights of action could work better, especially for water pollution.

Trying to search the forum for every single one of them and their views on pollution is tedious, so I'm going to stop now, but the point is, at least some libertarians do think about it. And that's just WF.

I'm not about to defend every one of those folks, or every one of their views (especially the ones who turned super Trumpy) but it's not like there isn't thought from the libertarian right on the topic, even if a lot of them don't think about it.

I searched "pollution", "pollute", "dump", "clean", "coal" individually in that order, with each poster's name.
You asked "but what about when your pollution floats onto the next guy's property?", not about climate change. Quit moving the goal posts.

Okay, even allowing that all this equals "cracking the libertarian pollution paradox" (which was just a bit of snark I put at the end for spice) it doesn't undo the rest of my arguments.

The core one being, the right has always liked state intervention just fine when it does what they want.
Trumpists are just more open and shameless about it.

One point of contention here. Not about Paladin specifically, just where most people think the borders are. This country has had an astronomical shift to the right in the last 20 years. So, people who were "moderate" conservatives now call themselves "moderate" liberals or libertarians.

Liberals - oh! Look! more people with more different ideas, let's embrace them
Conservative - "let's hold back. Let's move slowly and let everyone else catch up
Libertarians - I don't care what you do, just don't tax me.

The thing is to just stick to your own ideals. I mostly vote Democrat because the majority of Republican nominees are against social safety nets and .... what could be characterized as "anti-woman". I have voted Republican when certain senators have advocated for cleaning up brownfields. I voted Republican for president in 92, 96, and 2000 because I despised Bill Clinton - who despite what came out of his mouth was very obviously anti-woman and I voted against Gore because he didn't have the balls to impeach Clinton.

If you now more align with Democratic candidates, great. Just don't bitch about why the left can't "come together" when all the right has to do is shout buzzwords like SECOND AMENDMENT!!!! and UNBORN BABIES!!!!

Gawd... did I really drink that much kool-aid back then?

Oddly, two of the things that sent me back leftward were Async's paper; "On Liberty and Responsibility" along with Marso introducing the term "Noblesse Oblige" to me.

He was VP. Senate was 50/50. I truly believe Gore was disgusted by Clinton's actions and despite the BJ being the catalyst, I don't think Clinton was truly representative, nor working for the American people. I think Gore thought so too. But, being so invested in the Democratic Party, he couldn't vote the way he wanted. So, if a politician is more concerned with their political party than the good of the country (hello trump supporters), then they shouldn't be president.

Gore couldn't have done anything. He couldn't even vote. They needed a 2/3 vote to convict, not a simple majority.

Yea, that whole fiasco was very "Republican" of them as well as Democrats back in the 70s advocating for anti-marijuana and imprisoning anyone who had the audacity to smoke it.

First, Clinton was impeached, but it was by the House, not the Senate, so Gore had no involvement.

Second, as @Man Afraid of his Shoes pointed out, Gore would not have had to vote on conviction because there wasn't even a tie and nowhere close to the needed 2/3; only 45 voted to convict.

Third, the Senate was 55/45, not 50/50.

Sorry to say it, but you got duped by conservative propaganda. None of what you said is remotely true.

Fuck people. That was twenty years ago. I'm not about to start arguing about the mechanics of the process and whether it was right or wrong. My comment was only to highlight that despite being "liberal" I didn't vote for him. Both Gore and Clinton were far to conservative for my tastes and while I don't remember the specifics, I only remember that Gore's vote was the deciding factor and that is why I didn't vote for him.

What vote are you talking about? There is no way Gore was the deciding factor. Do you understand the Vice President's role?

I mean what's done is done, but that was a pretty stupid reason not to vote for Gore because it was based on a completely incorrect premise. Especially with the last two decades of hindsight.
