Why? I seriously do not understand. The gaffe at the start where the first person accidentally introduced Harris as President, before correcting herself?

Who, considering who she's married to, probably says the words "Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the United States" a lot.

You've never accidentally picked up the phone at home and answered it the way you do at work, or said any other words out of pure habit?

Ketanji Brown Jackson calls herself a "non-denominational Protestant" when asked her religious affiliation by Lady G. Given that the Notorious KBJ brings a slew of other qualifications to the bench that none of the other SCOTUS members have had (she'll be the only member of SCOTUS who spent time as a public defender, for example), I think that she's a pretty good choice.

Totally predictable that Republicans would seize on her defense of the scum of the earth as proof that she's "soft on crime." Never mind that it was her fucking job and public defenders don't get to pick their clients... and never mind that the British soldiers involved in the "Boston Massacre" didn't get lynched because they got a fair trial and a brilliant defense by John Adams. Today he'd probably be vilified as "soft on crime." Never mind that the right to representation is fundamental to our legal system and that lawyers are indoctrinated from the very start that even the worst criminals are entitled to the best possible defense and that they are obligated to "zealously" represent their clients...ahhh...don't get me started.... :brood:

Sadly, this isn't a position limited to those in one particular party. For some reason, folks who think that there's a good chance a percentage of folks on death row are innocent, aren't willing to extend the same level of doubt to people who are in prison for other crimes.

Did anyone catch the idiot from Arkansas demanding that she tell him whether more murderers should be caught or fewer?

I don't agree with that. I think he would have asked that of any Democrat's nominee.

Not bad, but their Kavanough one is still the best.

"All right people. We all know who we are voting for so let's get those sound bites ready for those donor emails."

Pretty much sums up what this process has been reduced to. Just do a one day hearing, have the vote, confirm her and move on. Anything else is a waste of time.

Confirmation hearings weren't really a thing until radio came along. When politicians realized that could get free coverage for holding such hearings, they started holding them. The only person to get nominated for the Supreme Court and not get confirmed after the hearings was Robert Bork.

Nah, she'll vote to confirm. That's Collins' game: get headlines and burnish her "independent" credentials by voting against her party in situations where doing so won't actually change the outcome.
