'Catastrophe Exposure' Pushes State Farm to Stop Selling Insurance in California And before someone leaps in to talk about how this all the fault of CA being "woke," you need to see what's going on in places like Florida, Louisana, and any of a number of places on the Eastern seaboard, where insurers are refusing to issue policies to homes in certain areas because of the increased risk of damage due to hurricanes.
Canada: Worse wildfire season ever! https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/canada-track-its-worst-ever-wildfire-season-2023-06-05/
I was in downtown Toronto this morning. Had to wear a mask outside for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Why? Because the whole city smelled like a campfire and the air quality index was in the danger zone. But nothing to see here, folks. Move along and pretend like the planet isn't trying to shake us off like a bad cold.
Not "us." We're just fine here in God's country. And by God's country, this is east of the Mississippi and south of the Mason Dixon line.
You're right. We're doomed. https://www.wsbtv.com/news/trending...-later-this-month/AGG4W5NIERBRZOEFYRND65IIVY/
The air quality is down in Virginia due wildfires in Canada. This time I get to actually blame Canada.
It’s Supposed to Be Hot in Puerto Rico, Not This Damn Hot The Caribbean archipelago is expected to experience heat indices between 108 and 111 degrees Fahrenheit this week. Dinner is overjoyed.
I honestly don't recall Vancouverites bitching as much as New Yorkers are now, when all that smoke from the California/Washington fires blew over the city last year. Fucking whiny bitch New Yorkers.
We get huge amounts of smoke from the BC interior fires every year as well I'm honestly embarrassed for these New Yorkers, fuckin amateurs
Hey, hey! You pansies have an entire medical system that helps you for pennies. We ‘Merkins are dealing with this in the rugged way our ancestors did and none of this modern shit. You beaver fuckers wouldn’t last ten minutes with our healthcare system. You want talk wimpy? Let’s talk about men who staple their nutsacks back together rather than going to a doctor because they can’t afford it, even with insurance! You wanna talk tough? Let’s talk about that.
There was a little thing that happened in the fall of 2001 that might make them a little sensitive to having their city covered in ash and smoke.
It has nothing to do with that. Fuck, very fucking little has anything to do with 9/11. This is like when a city that normally has temps above freezing in winter and they get snow. The city is unprepared for it. Vancouver, Seattle, etc., as. Ten Lubak says, are used to it. New York is not.
Um, no city is used to choking particulate smog. At least on this continent. But yeah, 9/11 has fuck all to do with people's feelings about it.
Jesus! I was listening to a podcast where the host was apologizing for the sound of their voice. They'd been on the East Coast, and even though they'd worn a mask, the air was so bad that it fucked it up. My mind flashed back to an old Mark Russell comedy special where he'd just gotten back from Moscow, and he apologized for the sound of his voice. The air quality in Moscow was so bad, because they have nothing like our EPA, it was the same as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. I guess we were always going to get here, the Communists just got there faster!
To anyone in Texas or Mexico, please take care of yourself however you can. There's a massive heat dome stalled over Texas and Mexico. https://twitter.com/WeatherProf/status/1671275494229065731
Sadly, if you're a Texas construction worker, Greg Abbott just repealed local regulations that mandated regular water and heat breaks, leaving the regulations up to the construction companies.
A warming climate has claimed three more glaciers in Washington state. These three were all on Mount Rainier, home to more ice than any American mountain south of Alaska. https://kuow.org/stories/another-three-bite-the-dust-rip-3-mount-rainier-glaciers Deuces glaciers. I’m sure you were pretty useless and it’s no big deal you are gone.
Catastrophic fire at chemical plant in China Sooner or later, we’re going to have to address the fact that while it might not be possible to replace all the noxious chemicals used in modern society, we're going to have to redesign facilities that use such chemicals in such a manner as to make such explosions almost impossible.
