There's a stand-up comic by the name of Brad Williams, who is a little person. In an appearance on Christopher Titus' podcast some time back (no, I'm not linking to it because I'm tired, and search engines suck ass these days) he said that folks in his community were all excited when they heard that Tim Burton was going to be remaking "Willy Wonka," only to discover that they cast one actor in the role, and just CGI'd duplicates of him to play all the other Oompa Loompas. Needless to say, they weren't happy about that.

The 2023 version of The Little Mermaid has grossed $550-million worldwide so far.

The 1989 version grossed $220-million worldwide, which works out to about $460-million adjusted for inflation. And in 1989, we didn't have the interwebs, streaming services or entertainment options we have today.

I don't care who they cast either as I'm not seeing it regardless. I really don't care to see a redo of an old Disney movie, but more power to those that bring their kids to see it. Different strokes for different folks.

For me, I'd be far more interested in these old stories if they went back to the original source material and made it more true to book form. Id love to see a proper adaption of Pinnochio as IMO Disney really sanitized it and made it bland. But that would require a different studio and would probably be rated PG13 or R, which would lose the kids.

Are you fucking serious? To be 100% completely honest? No. I can certainly imagine a few people might raise a stink about it, but my black ass wouldn’t give a single, solitary fuck. Especially in this age of race swapping that’s going on.

Here’s a question for you… for decades, 90-95% of people and culture depicted in Hollywood has been Lilly white and all of us black and brown people were expected to enjoy it. For the most part we did. We were told it’s weird not to.

So why is this such a huge problem for you? Why can’t you just enjoy it just because 1 superficial detail has changed? Watching all those white people on TV taught me that even though we may do things differently here and there, all of us have way more in common than we think. Maybe, just maybe… all the race swapping is for people like you and not so much for people like us.
