I get to deal with mentally unhinged folks all day but my job doesn't allow for me to make them look like fools.

running circles around him in a paragraph or less is an amusing distraction. like the Al Jaffee books where there'd be a blank speech bubble so you could fill in your own...

Besides, he seems to enjoy his role getting bukaked on the daily by us low hanging fruit.

The state of Washington has reached 8 million people, and it's growing twice as fast as the national average.

Each November, the Office of Financial Management shares the most up-to-date forecast for the state's population. The latest report shows Washington grew about 14.6%, which is about twice the national average. Most of that growth has been in the Puget Sound region. [Anc: Emphasis mine. Any guesses as which city is the center of the Puget Sound region? Anyone?]

    https://kuow.org/stories/washington-state-population-tops-8-million-and-it-s-not-getting-any-younger

The concerning part is that we are getting older and the biggest culprit is housing costs. We HAVE to build more housing. Yes, the state needs more social housing for those at the bottom but we across the board need more housing of all types.

Otherwise we will end up like California where we start to ‘lose’ population. I’ve explained before that that is a misleading stat. If a middle class family of four moves from the Bay Area to Phoenix so they can afford a 3-bedroom now that their kids are getting older and get replaced by two tech bros statistically speaking that unit has lost HALF its population. Even though it doubled its income and similarly cut state expenses in half. And while I’m not saying middle class families with kids being forced out is a good thing, far from it, it isn’t the doom and gloom that the right feeds their rubes that everyone is fleeing Cali because it sucks.

People are leaving Cali because the supply of housing isn’t meeting the demand of those who want to live there meaning that richer (generally smaller households) are pushing out poorer. Or in other words… capitalism.

Capitalism ain’t why the housing isn’t getting built.

Touché. I was mostly using it sarcastically. It’s modern American capitalism in practice not necessarily in theory.

Although I would say that the gutting of pension systems leading to the commodification of housing as a necessary retirement plan (meaning prices need to continually rise) leads to a lot of the NIMBYism that constrains supply.

Builders Remedy shows some promise. We’ll see if it is enough.

Prop 13 needs to go both for freeing up supply and budgetary reasons.

Hey! Along with being the fastest growing state in the nation, here is a fun trivia question:

What US state* has the highest minimum wage in the nation ($15.74 to Cali’s $15.50)?

Anyone want to take a wild guess?

*there is a Columbian District that has a higher one

For the rural areas hella good.

More expensive areas still better than $7.25 states, going by adjusted median income and poverty rates.

But also with Seattle having a minimum wage of $18.69 (nice) and SeaTac of $19.06 it has forced businesses in surrounding areas to increase their wages to keep workers from taking jobs in Seattle and SeaTac.

One nice thing about all this is that it is tied to inflation. So automatically the state min will rise to $16.28 and Seattle’s to $19.97 Jan 1st.

gee whiz, it's like door dash, et al, are unsustainable business models without ripping of the actual workers. (DD did report 8.3 BILLION in profits last year, and bought back $750M worth of stock)
And heaven forbid consumers actually pay what a service is worth.

I don't use it, and local restaurants here don't seem to be fans either. I've heard from a couple of owners they lose money along with countless complaints about driver/rider behaviour.
