Caretaker is a funny word in this context, because clearly Feinstein has more than one.

They should proceed to a competency hearing. Newsome can appoint a replacement. Same should happen in KY for McConnell. But our broken system means that despite being a minority the GOP could block the replacement until the next election, and that's the majority. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Pelosi running again at 83 might have something to do with this as well. She says she is running because she can use her name recognition to fund raise and then help others in California that are running. While I'm sure that's true and she'll sail through despite her age, it could very likely be that she is running because she has a direct interest in Feinstein's replacement.

    How so?

Not contesting the statement, just curious about it. How would her having a preference in the Senate race affect her running for re-election?

Pelosi is part of a significant political machine in California and that has often included patronage. She did express a preference for Feinstein's replacement. In this case Adam Schiff.

The fact she is running again stating that she is doing so to gather money to dispense to other candidates IMO is quite likely so she can donate said money to (potentially among others) her preferred replacement for the Senate seat.

Which is completely her prerogative. Just thought it was interesting that might be one of the reasons she plans on being in the House when she's 85.

Who would take over subsidizing all the Republican states that California is currently supporting?

How much could roadkill, beer, tabacky, and meth really cost? If we just took away their coal rolling pickups we could just air drop the rest and they would find something to fuck in the area.

Biden's handlers cut off his mic and once again rushed another press conference. It's funny how you do see Republicans calling for Mitch McConnell to step down, but Democrats, they just have un-elected handlers doing politicians jobs for them.

IMO, if she is willing, Newsom should appoint Barbara Boxer. She already left once so she would be cool with not standing for election, and she would have zero learning curve when she got there.

From what I have read it was pretty much her staff propping up these last couple of years. Shame they cares more about their paychecks/closeness to power than the well-being of someone they served for so long.

In a just world they would be investigated for elder abuse.

She deserved to go out better than she did. Now she’ll be mostly remembered for the reason stated in the thread title. :(
