    No adblockers for you!
Let's see, your platform has shitty ads, keeps increasing the number of ads that they show users, and wants way too fucking much money for an ad-free version, so your solution is to block people who aren't interested in putting up with your bullshit. Good luck with that.

When is this supposed to hit? Maybe I don't watch enough Youtubers who work in the traditional ad revenue spaces. I think Ryan George and watchmojo have ads and they operate no differently for me. Drybar is not fucking up. Dusty doesn't do ads, Titus incorporates ads into the show. Professor of rock does the same. Veritasium seems to also do that.

This does not seem to effect what I am using on youtube. Maybe Channel Awesome or Stoned Gremlin Productions?

If youtube didn't fuck monetized channels so often I would turn off the adblockers and might pay for content. Instead I just find ways to directly contribute to the creators I watch through their patreon or direct contributions, and if I am already doing that I am not turning off my ad blocker so youtube can sop up all the profit for themselves.

I've been getting the "friendly request" thing for...several days? A week?

Today I got the "you have three videos and then we won't let them play."

So I deleted my cookies. I may have to do that regularly, but I ain't watching their fucking ads.

In Windows, I had no trouble normalizing all audio in the sound settings, so I have no need for YouTube to do it. It does not appear that Android has such a setting. What the fuck, Android? You put shit like Dolby Atmos in there, easy to find, but not simple shit like "normalize audio"?

I use Opera on my phone because it has built in and blocking. No issues with YouTube, and still no ads.

Folks are starting to get notices on systems running that, so who knows how much longer they’ll work.

Yes, YouTube is trying very hard to drive its entire customer base to other platforms. Short sighted stupidity.

ad block and ad block + on chrome. I don't get ads other than on some music playlists.

of the channels I watch regularly, the only ads are the presenter spending up to a minute telling us how skillshare or an off brand cereal company changed their life, and those are skippable

The only ads I see on YouTube are the ones that play at the beginning of some videos and sometimes in the middle of them.

You all are saying that adblockers kill those? I thought only signing up for Premium did that.

Adblock presently kills them, and it seems it has not gotten tracked by youtube as of the moment because I get no warnings on firefox.

Thanks. I didn't realize those were the same kind of ads as the annoying graphic-types that pop up on a website you're trying to view.

I don't mind inline ads like on YouTube all that much seeing as how ad revenue pays my salary.

Not everyone's getting hit at the same time. YT forced me to disable my adblockers about two months ago, and it affected both Chrome on my desktop and Firefox on my laptop.
It looks like it's a gradual rollout.

I heard somewhere that it might not be legal in Germany for YT to do this, but @K. would need to weigh in on that. As it is, right now my chief complaints are that the ads are trash and are piss poorly timed during the classical music I listen to while delivering my route. Since that's on my phone, adblockers weren't an option to begin with :garamet:

You know why that's a particularly stupid question for you to ask, Billy? Because it sets up this response perfectly: Did a Nazi YouTuber tell you to ask me that?

It is legal for YT to do this in Germany. The ongoing debate is whether it is legal for users to use technology that circumvents YT's design to avoid ads after all. Currently, the prevailing legal opinion is that it isn't, i.e. if YT wants to show you its service only if you see the ads, you are not allowed to use technology to see their content without ads.

What they are not allowed to do is block your account, probably, perhaps. But they can make it so that you can't use it without selling your eyeballs.

Same. I don’t get paid ad revenue, but I understand how the system works. I get more annoyed with the YouTuber shilling for some other company to get free stuff.

Ayup. Just got hit with it tonight.

Allow me to introduce you to the Friendly app. It allows you to block ads on YT on your phone, regardless of your OS. You can thank me later.

    finally got hit last night.
turned off the AB+, but not AB. Everything seemed normal and without interruptions.

What advertisers don't understand is that I will become even less likely to buy their shit if they're spamming up my YT or FB use.

This reminds me, Dailymotion is still a thing. @Order2Chaos any way we can have the board treat Dailymotion links like it does YT ones? You know, once we upgrade the board software like we've been talking about for three fucking months now.
