I facepalmed your post because the Democrats have been doing everything in their power to stop Trump since he first came down the escalator, but maybe you didn't notice that.
The most likely answer is they just kick it down to the states to decide by not accepting the case. But considering there definitely appears to be corruption in SCOTUS I'll be curious where business interests lie. Civil War is not good for the vast majority of businesses. They might 'suggest' to their 'friends' on the court that it's time to kick Trump to the curb and use that as a lever to get the business lobby back into what is now a populist Republican party where the Tea Party of 10 years ago are the conservatives. It would be ironic as hell if the fact SCOTUS was corrupted by the GOP was finally the reason we get rid of Trump. After all, they don't have to worry about being voted out like the politicians do.
This is predicated upon the idea that they realize a civil war is a distinct possibility and that if one comes, they'll be negatively impacted by it. Given that the world's wealthiest man is aligning himself with so-called "accelerationists" who often see a civil war as a way of getting rid of those elements they consider to be "undesirable" in our society, I wouldn't bet on companies thinking that they need to have Trump disposed of.
Here go the Democrats, rigging elections again by insisting presidential candidates not engage in insurrection. Blah blah 1984 quote blah blah. The South will rise again!
So apparently today’s SCOCOS decision just so happened to cite a lot of opinions and articles written by conservative SCOTUS justices. https://bsky.app/profile/qjurecic.bsky.social/post/3kgwzw6vrgy2f
Let’s see… openly lecherous for his daughter, very unethical, if not outright illegal business dealings, stealing from a children’s cancer charity…
My guess is he's talking about Bush's war in Iraq, because no intellectually dishonest contortions are too big a stretch for Captain Comma Splice.
He didn’t have the guts to end Afghanistan while he was in office. He poked Iran and China, and apparently was in love with Kim Jung-un…
Remember how they let LA and AL use unconstitutional congressional maps because it was too close to the election (they said) to resolve new ones before it would be too late? My guess is that will be their dodge here. Weasel out of the 14thA question buy saying "Well, it's already 2024 and the primaries have started so what can be done?"
But that still will be an action, as currently the Colorado SC has said he isn't eligible. They will have to overturn it. And at the end of the day I think the politics of it is going to overcome everything else. Even if they aren't on the take - and clearly some of them are - they are still invested in the legitimacy of the democratic process, because that's the basis of their relevancy. And they are looking at one of two scenarios that could impact their legitimacy within that context. One, they infuriate the left, and Biden wins anyway. In which case we are yet another step closer to Biden or the next democrat packing the court. That decreases both their personal power and the court's legitimacy. Or they back Trump, and he wins - and he moves to make himself dictator for life, which means the Court is simply going to be ignored when they rule against him, and possibly could even be disbanded far enough down that timeline. The safest thing for them to do by far is to say it's a matter for the states and simply not take up the case. And that's consistent with their rulings to this point. Guess we'll see.
Also, Kevin McCarthy didn't even make it through to the end of the month. He announced his retirement from Congress, effective today.
I’m not sure it matters much but Gorsuch was born and raised in Denver, served ten years on the Tenth Circuit (which is based in Denver) and is said to be a pretty proud Coloradan.
