It’s the only way I can figure it, otherwise Hank Pym would know about them and so would Howard Stark.

It could be something like they come from the 616 universe's 60s but their initial experiment transport them (and Doom if they want to keep in place the notion that he's a contemporary and rival of Reed's) in time and space to 2027 (or whatever year it is supposed to be in the 616 Marvel universe now).

Supposedly, they really want Javier Bardem for him, but they're having a hard time getting him like they did Cumberbatch for Dr. Strange.

*Google checks my spelling of Javier's name*

But like.... Obviously Doom, right? Modern Doom is such a goddamn Mary Sue that you need a Cavill level hunk/nerd to portray him.

Still got that incursion mentioned in MoM.

My money is on a giant reset button as part of the Kang story and many realities going into a blender and getting poured into either a new multiverse, before then we get to play with a few different realities.

If they were being smart, they'd either use What If or a live equivalent to gauge audience responses to concepts and spin them off, but like how Quincy and Columbo started off.

Rewatched The Marvels the other week, and had a bit of time to muse on the MCU (I'm sure Disney appreciate my thinking!)

Post-Endgame they've not managed the torch passing well at all - there should, for example, have been a Cap 4 set pre-IW to set the stage for Falcon/WS and brought Armour Wars forward as Iron Man Legacy or something (and introduce Riri in that) spaced between, and involving in some way, the newer ones. They'd also have been better having the GotG in The Marvels than Thor 4, I mean, who wouldn't want to see Rocket's response to Beast proclaiming surprise at a talking raccoon?

The Marvels I still say is a really good movie, but I think they avoided the weird too much. Other than the catvacuation and a cynical Bollywood interlude, I don't think they took full advantage of using Khan as the audience getting used to the wider MCU as GotG did with Quill. And the actress would be very good at getting that across IMO.

They've also focussed on named directors too much, then hammered them into a Marvel shaped hole regardless of the director's shape. If you want the cachet, give them utter freedom, reduced budget, and a non A lister to play with. I'd rather see someone like Cronenberg handed 25 million, Forbush Man and absolute freedom, than 400 million, Galactus, and the Marvel Template to blancmange a movie in to. And I think the audiences would too.

It says a lot that the pre-Endgame mini-franchise ones (BP and GotG) have done a lot better, and I'm not sure it is just down to familiarity.

I also think they've not learned that wider audiences respond to broad brushes.

As someone who ran a sci-fi group for a while, I know very well quite a lot of women like sci-fi and fantasy, it's just that quite a lot more don't. From a practical point of view it matters not if that is down to patriarchy, social conditioning, whatever, but Hollywood pretty much invented RomComs and certain comedy types so the wife/girlfriend had genre films to enjoy. I'm sure even Mrs KKK would have loved to seen a wonderfully racist comedy the week after hubby took her to Birth of a Nation.

So if you want to target women, don't just lazily chuck in female leads, as now you've just got angry males unsure if they should listen to their twitching cocks or outraged monkey brain. Spin it up a bit.

To probably no one's surprise Madame Web is a huge flop. When you've lost Chris Stuckman, you've lost the ball game.

Sony's still got Venom 3 and Spider-verse 3 up their sleeve.
I hold out little hope for Kraven, that looks like re-skinned Morbius.

Although, Madame Web being THAT bad makes me wanna see it.
Maybe it's another superhero Ed Wood like Fan4stic was.

You’re familiar with Mr. Sunday Movies? They say watch it when it’s free, it’s just not worth watching in theaters. Don’t watch their review unless you don’t care about spoilers.

Sony just aren't very good with movies - I suspect the animated Miles movies are only as good as they are down to a combination of Miller/Lord having the pull to cockblock interference, and the fact they're animated maybe giving them less visibility amongst the suits wanting to interfere.

Even the Venom films are pretty crap - fun crap, yes, but still pretty crap. The Original Spideys were good, and that is pretty much that for their live action superhero movies.

That Sony has not figured out making movies by committee doesn't work very well by now, pretty much indicates they never will, and so will continue to spunk cash on projects that fail badly.

To no one’s surprise, you single out a film about a woman.

    upload_2024-2-21_8-4-56.png

Any others on this list do you have any information? Or has the critical drinker not yet informed you which one you will like?

    Those who can’t do, teach.
Those who can’t do or teach, criticize.

At least, Roger Ebert stuck to actual criticism of movies rather than resort to attacking female actors to boost his ratings.

    You, as always, fail.

He’s right though - this film, starring women, completely sucked in every single way, and is dead on arrival. You could even tell the actresses knew it sucked when they were promoting the film

MCU is rewriting practically everything, and Avengers 5 is no longer "The Kang Dynasty".
I gotta admit, I had no enthusiasm for that Kang shit.
    Once they bought Fox, I want X-Men, X-Men, X-Men.
Stop edging it like it was tantric sex, just fork it the fuck over.
Been over 5 fucking years since the acquisition; time to cough it up.

I don’t recall giving my opinion on this movie. I haven’t even seen it. I specifically mentioned Mr. Sunday Movies and Chris Stuckman. It’s no surprise that this movie flopped because Sony doesn’t have a good track record with Spider-Man adjacent movies and so far, all female teams aren’t doing so good. Also the director is not proven and they brought in the writers from Morbius so this movie was doomed from the beginning.

    "Superhero fatigue" isn't a thing.
Tired of that shit. I've got superhero fatigue fatigue.
They said that shit before "Black Panther" made 2 billion, they said it before the "Infinity War" duology dropped and made 3.5 billion, they keep trying to will it into being.
It just takes another really good movie to recharge it.
    Just like any genre.
Shit, June Taylor dance number movies would make a comeback if someone made a new one, and it was good.

Put it this way. If superhero movies could keep chugging along after "Batman & Robin" and "Catwoman" and "Elektra" they aren't fucking going anywhere.

What people are really tired of is the milking.
    The tantric sex shit.

If I were in charge of Marvel right now, I'd get "Deadpool & Wolverine" out there, get "Fantastic Four" set up, and skip all the intervening shit no one cares about, and get right to Avengers 5 & 6, and make it the big Avengers, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Dr. Doom, Galactus showdown we always wanted since the MCU was born.

I don't care about fucking Agatha, or Bucky, or Echo, or any of that shit.
As Joan Jett said "don't bore us, get to the chorus".
