CA mail in ballots don’t look like that. AFAICT ours are ordinary envelopes. And they got rid of the more opaque inner envelope in 2022.

First off just the sheer amount of effort that would go into this compared to the payoff is just ridiculous.

So in order to steal ONE vote someone would need to first break into a drop off box without anyone knowing.

They would then need to print off accurate enough exterior envelopes and ballots that election workers won’t flag them as forgeries. That they also have my personal KCE barcode on both of them.

Keep in mind how individual each ballot is. It is not just “Joe Biden or Donald Trump” but 9th Congressional District, 37th LD, 2nd City Council District, whatever school zone I’m in, what ever King County Port Authority District, whatever Fire District, etc, etc, etc. None of which overlap.

Then you have to hire a forger to copy my signature good enough that neither the computer nor an election worker flags it.

And then put it back before I notice it is taking too long and go get another one.

All for one vote.

And you have to do it with no one noticing you buying the special ink, paper and printers used, none of your goons stealing ballots gets caught, not getting flagged for hiring a forger, etc etc etc.

Even then there is Ballot Reconciliation. Every spoiled or flagged ballot (the voter not the contents) is public. KCE will text or email you letting you know. And campaigns have a chance to go around and get folks to ‘reconcile’ their ballots.

This is how Kwama Sawant got to be our Socialist city councilmember. It was close enough that even while her opponent won with all accepted ballots the Sawant team was able to reconcile enough ballots of their suppoerters push over the line by a fingernail.

When you vote by mail, you can check to see if your ballot has been received. If it is not received, you have multiple ways to follow up and make sure your vote is counted.

It's the equivalent to asking your bank to mail you your life savings in the form of a check, when you know that if the envelope gets lost, you can simply have them cut another check and not be out a single penny.
