Actually, it isn't. It is a well known way people who want a gun can easily get one without a lengthy search, and is also a big way for straw purchases.

As a convicted felon I can easily go down to any state gun show and buy a gun. This is because CT does a shit job of updating databases outside of their state and therefor a quick background check does not bring up any record. You would have to spend a couple of days to get an electronic report which queries CT databases to get my record. That cannot be done in a day at a gun show, and the slim background checks are shit because the states do not do a good job of updating the db that gun vendors at gun shows use. Even gun shows do not query every state's prison records unless they are forced to do heavier background checks.

You are wrong. Maybe you believe lying ass guntards who make claims the background checks are good enough, but gun show vendors do not have time to do proper background checks, and the states do not fully update all DBs. The ones gun dealers use are not the same ones law enforcement always updates. Not to mention court clerks are notoriously shitty at doing their job, so sometimes they do not update records properly.

When you can drive up the road and get a gun there are no restrictions if you are not going through customs inspections. There is no one at the border checking if you cross with a gun. New Jersey has open gun shows right across the border from NYC. You could use the train system if you did not have a car.

Used to be all all Gun Shows in Washington were run by WAC, Washington Arms Collectors, it was a kinda state level guns rights group, a gun show runner and local gun news (like they would send you a physical newsletter every month IN THE TEENS!) group.

To buy at a Gun Show you had to be a WAC member. To be a WAC member you had to pass a Federal Firearms Background Check. At least back in ‘07 this couldn’t be done day of. You could apply for membership at the show, get it in a couple weeks and you could buy ammo and accessories that day but no guns.

First time I went to a show here in Washington I didn’t know that.

Thankfully the guy selling the used Smith & Wesson J-frame that was the right price and what I was interested in helpfully informed me that as long as I went to that ATM over there and got the cash (no card) he could get his buddy to watch his table and he could walk to my car and sell it to me there but I had to either leave or hide it in my trunk, couldn’t bring it in without WAC membership.
