Not a lawyer, but I don't think that wording means "sentenced to jail for a felony;" it just means "convicted of a felony." "Offense punishable by more than one year in jail" just describes what a felony is. Typically, the difference between misdemeanor and felony is whether the maximum jail time is less than a year, or more than a year, regardless of how much jail time one is actually sentenced to. If found guilty, Trump would lose SS protection, whether or not he's actually sentenced to any prison time.

The actual proposal is the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable Former Protectees Act, or "DISGRACED Former Protectees Act."

    https://www.politico.com/f/?id=0000018e-f719-d1c7-a3ef-ffdd12f40000

The text of the act, linked above, does say it would deny protection to anyone convicted of "any Federal or State offense punishable for a term of imprisonment of at least a year." So if it passes, this would apply even if Trump were to get probation, a commuted or suspended sentence, etc.

Putting the amusement at the acronym and the politics of Republicans voting against it aside, I don't think the actual law is a good idea. Creating a situation where Secret Service protection is removed from a former president, even a disgraced one, is a bad look.

What role does secret service have in a prison setting? Like, there are a lot of guards in prison already.

I'd imagine that in the unlikely event that DJT got prison time, the Secret Service would still have a role to play to as an extra level of security from whatever the prison has.

Trump continues to try to delay, this time filing an emergency appeal to move the venue because I shit you not people read out mean social media posts as part of the vetting process for jury selection.

Judge Merchan is having none of it.

“At this point, what’s happened is defense is literally targeting individual decisions, one by one by one by one, and filing pre-motion letters,” Merchan said.

“As the people suggested a minute ago, that has to end. There comes a point when you accept my rulings,” Merchan said, adding that proceedings were not going to be bogged down.

“We’re going to have opening statements Monday morning,” Merchan said, “This trial is starting.”

He is elderly, no one has ever told him what to do, and he is a blob of a man. This is not to mention he coats himself with cosmetics that he probably does not care properly for, which breeds bacteria. There is no doubt this man smells like shit. One of the things about dementia and alzheimers is the lack of bathing and the need to wear old and dirty clothing, especially undergarments. There is no possibility that they are not just throwing clean clothing over an unwashed man in a dirty diaper who has on dirty undergarments he won't allow people to wash.

I am not trying to be mean to him, but this is what would be the case of an elderly male qith dementia/alzheimers who no one can say no to, and who does not have caregivers or family who can forcefully bathe him or tell him to shower.

This man is covered in old man ooze and no one puts Drumph in the showers. He is probably layering on the make up daily.

I do have to laugh at the obvious prison bus behind the reporter for the first minute of that report. This is not civil court day, this is criminal court day and they are doing more than just trump business there.
