No doubt you've been wondering, where is my favorite thread? Well the thread has been considering it's options after being offered a pretty sweet spot over at TrekBBS, but then facebook came calling, and with the promise of the superthread we got more flustered than Missouri thinking they were being courted by the Big Ten. But like the Big XII tied to Texas, the CFT is tied to Wordforge. So, here we are, ready for another year of the greatest thread on Wordforge. I mean hey, the Sooners haven't even lost yet and Flashlight is nowhere to be found, maybe he's locked in Mike Leach's equipment closet. Well, any closet. So this could be a good year for the... 2010 College Football Thread! *Let's all remember to pour a little out for Techman, this may be the Huskers year.
...On probation and out of the bowl scene for the next two years.... I'll bet we still kick Notre Dame's ass though!!
Come Civil War, Ducks all the way. But familial obligations require me to like the Beavers; my sister attends OSU.
Welcome Bickendan, you can only choose one team. Oh, and henceforth, Oregon State shall be known as the Beavers, there's only one OSU in this thread...
I have a lot of family that went to UT and guess what? They can all go fuck themselves. There is no such thing as a familial obligation in college football. (notable exception is if a family member actually plays on the team)
I had thought 9-3 but I was forgetting to add in the inevitable inexplicable loss to an inferior opponent. Oklahoma State, 8-4
Honestly, as long as we beat Ohio State or any Michigan team it's a winning season no matter what our record is.
I'll have you know that when I walked into OU's stadium yesterday I had a good beer/tequila buzz goin, and a blonde on my arm.
Went to the A&M game this weekend. They looked alright beating up on SFA, better than Tech looked against SMU. Welcome to the Tuberville era.
The new Virginia Tech uniforms look awful. Black? Maroon trim with orange Tron numbers? Nike Combat Pro uniforms looks like shit. I thought the Army ACU football uniforms looked bad, but they were light years less sucky than this nonsense.
People need to learn to stay away from Nike; they're peddlers of shame and ruin. Unfortunately, most of the AD's around the country and the students they watch over are dumber than shit.
I didn't get the uniforms either, it didn't help them though did it. Get ready for the year of Boise State.
Penn State is off to a good start, although their 1st game against Youngstown State was basically a walk through with a 44-14 win. Bolden looked poised and in control. This week however we have a REAL game against National Champs Alabama in their stadium with 100,000 hostile Tide fans. Alabama's defense is gonna be a good test for our rookie QB Bolden. The good news is the Lions have had success against Nick Saban coached teams, with a 3-2 record when he coached at Michigan State. I'll take Paterno over Saban any day. Bring it on 'Bama!
Mizzou beat Illinois for the 6th year in a row, but didn't look especially wonderful doing so. Their defense was solid, though, which is a good sign. Offense needs to step it up.
The numerous Vandal alums in my family and our circle of friends can hardly wait. Boise is already starting to go the Columbus, OH route with their rabid fandom of BSU. The bickering between BSU of UI alums in the Idaho Statesman has lately reached almost Wordforge levels of immaturity.
Nike does indeed blow. Especially if you're not one of their pet teams. They couldn't even get the right shade of maroon for A&M. Adidas has been a massive improvement for us. Unfortunately, recruits actually care about brand names and Nike is the King of cool urban image.
I've never seen them actually do anything right, period. Their best uniforms are unnecessary modifications (houndstooth for the numbers?) and their worst are outright atrocities. If Michigan ever falls prey to this, I'll be out for blood. I feel bad for the Spartans who have to put up with that nonsense, but at least they didn't change Sparty like they wanted to.
Games of interest today... Oklahoma State 41, Troy 13 Oklahoma 31, Florida State 28 Alabama 28, Penn State 21 Michigan 12, Notre... wait, I said games of interest.
Today a good friend of mine is having people over to watch Miami/Ohio State. He's a big Miami fan. I'm kinda torn about going. There will be free beer, but also way too much crying.
Yep its that time of year again I'd throw in the game between Florida and USF today as one of interest. USF's program has come a long way in the short time since its inception. Today is the inaugural game between the two schools and since the schools are relatively close team loyalties are now blurred for those weak in the mind. As for the Gators, Its going to be a rough year. I dont know if the SEC east title is in the picture let alone the SEC championship or National Championship.
I watched Marshall-WVU and Marshall owned that game until the last 2 minutes of regular play when they just fell apart and couldn't do anything to stop WVU. It was a good game considering that WVU was ranked and Marshall isn't, has a new coach, and hasn't had any standout players since Chad Pennington and Randy Moss back in 2000.
