Welcome to the College Football Thread Writers Camp! We've got a lot of topics to discuss, but before we get started let's take a moment to hear from the man of the hour, the Heisman trophy winner himself, Johnny Freakin Football! [action=evenflow]claps...[/action] ... Where is he? Really? Asleep?! You're kidding.... Folks, I'm sorry we were going to have Manziel come up here and breakdown the upcoming the season, he was going to talk about the continued dominance of the SEC, realignment, New coaching hires, like his former coach moving onto to Texas Tech. We were going to discuss the demise of the BCS and the rise of the playoff, the pros and cons of paying college athletes. Will Auburn ever recover? Will Leach get Wazzu rolling? Who will win the Big 12? Is Mack Brown long for Texas? Shit, this is what we get when we award the Heisman to a freshman with daddy issues, I guess... [action=evenflow]leans to an aide...[/action] Listen, you tell that east Texas piece of shit to get lost, okay, he's out of here. This entitled bullshit may fly in the SEC, but it doesn't happen in the Big 12, and it sure as he'll ain't gonna happen in the... 2013 COLLEGE FOOTBALL THREAD! As always, red room rules apply, and pour a little out for Techman, bless his Husker soul. Hey, before he leaves, see if Johnny will sign the memoralbia I left in his room...
in the Big 12, Are they still a conference? I thought that Texas and her remaining hangers on merged with the WAC?
Just remember that was a middle of the road Big 12 team that educated you southern fried fellas on how to run an offense last year. Oklahoma State plays Mississippi State in Houston in a couple weeks, we'll sort this out shortly.
Oh! Gonna take on SEC powerhouse* Miss State huh?!?! That's a bold move. *I hope we can beat MS State this year.
Meanwhile, the other "middle of the road Big 12 team" that moved to the SEC is praying that they can beat Vandy, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ole' Miss in order to play .500 football in conference. I predict they get *maybe* 3 of those wins.
For those of who you who bet on CFB, I'd say keep an eye on Florida State. Not just because my first two years there were ol' Bobby's first two years there, but also because I think they've been so oversold for the last few years that I think the pendulum has swung the other way with the national media and the bookies and they're being underrated this year. The defense is going to be at least as good as last year and might be better with a new DC recruited from Alabama who's promising to be more aggressive with blitzing. The new quarterback Jameis Winston was one of the top QBs out of high school, the offensive line is killer and they have plenty of running backs. The season opener is on Monday at Pittsburgh. Early line I saw was FSU minus 13. That might be an easy cover. (but don't come looking for me if you bet your mortgage)
Insanely low punishment, they must not have had any real evidence and cut a deal to save face. And JFF gets to not worry about them digging deeper until a smoking gun actually does turn up.
I will say this... Let the kids make some money, I'm fine with JFF's "suspension" but Urban Meyer is the one that really needs to be drummed out of college football.
I heard about this on the radio today, if Meyer did those things he's most likely done. That's eerily similar to what Dave Bliss did at Baylor ten years ago, although Florida/Ohio State football is a different league altogether than little old Baylor basketball.
Admittedly, I don't have the Rolling Stone article. But, what I'm consistantly reading is that it's a lot of allegation and sensationalism with no substance or fact to back it up. Sadly, that's par for the course for Rolling Stone.
The article is on their website for free. It doesn't provide any evidence. Obviously an actual investigation needs to happen.
Listen SEC, if you're gonna hold down the best offense in the Big 12, hold them down for the entire game.
I can't decide on Johnny Football. Is he a spoiled rich kid that's never been told no, a player that puts himself above his coach and his team, and a talented but cocky jackass that will get his comeuppance? YES. On the other hand, if they were to beat the soulless storm troopers of Nick Saban, it could be glorious. It feels like the Ags have made a deal with the devil, sold their souls for success in the SEC. I get the feeling he could destroy the program if the drama keeps up. Discuss.
He's the perfect quarterback for A&M. Sure, he's acting the fool in a lot of ways, which turns off a handful of Ags, but all the media attention is causing many of them to circle the wagons even more than they usually do. "Us versus Them" should be on that school's official seal. I never understood how the Aggies were ever able to build that big bonfire, what with using all the available wood in the area to build crosses for themselves.
I just wonder how far they'll take it. Will it still be "Us vs Them" if police dig up three coeds in his backyard?
I admit not knowing much about the kid until that ESPN article that came out last month. Prior to that I thought he was just a local kid (he played high school ball in a town about 45 minutes from here) who was incredibly talented on the football field. Now, it turns out he wasn't really from that town (his parents moved there to start a business) and he's a spoiled rich kid from East Texas...who happens to be incredibly talented on the football field.
Good luck with that. IIRC they got slapped down pretty hard the last time they tried to get uppidy. Yeah. You lose to a directional school and you should just forfeit for the rest of the season while you do two-a-days. [yt=Directional Colleges]bt6mZd42Ax4[/yt] (skip to 2:55 for the directional joke)
The Pokes beat University of Texas @ ShootER today. In other news SI is apparently coming out with some dirt on the Oklahoma State football program next week, pay for play, coeds having sex with recruits, etc. Which only proves I should have been better at football.
This kind of concern should be saved for teams that actually have sex offenders holding down scholarships. Johnny's rap sheet consists of getting in a fight, sleeping in at the Manning Camp, getting kicked out of a frat party, and being accused of violating an NCAA rule without any evidence to back it up. He may be an immature rich kid, but wake me up when he does something that would have been news worthy before the Heisman trophy.
