Less than two weeks until the Hall of Fame ceremony and the start of preseason. I wonder how the Patriots will do.
It looks like the Steelers will have a hard time winning the AFC North this year. Ten wins may be enough to win the division, but who knows which team will be able to get there.
My Rams are coming for you. I think the Niners are going to take a step back, and the Seahawks will win the division. The Rams are building something though, and they are going to be a nasty team not to far into the future. NFC West is the best division in football this year.
shootER agrees: Will you still root for them once they move back to Los Angeles? I was born in Long Beach, and that's why I started rooting for them in the first place. I'd be happy to see them back in LA, and I'd be happy if they stayed in St. Louis. I would NOT be thrilled if they went somewhere else. I remember the 79 Playoff Run when they beat Dallas on a last second play and were up 19-17 against the Steel Curtain going into the 4th quarter. Love me some LA Rams!
Oy - Crabtree is down, and Percy Harvin may need surgery for his hip. The Rams might have a better chance than I thought this year! Glad to see training camp getting underway. Season will be starting soon!
No way the Rams move back to LA. There isn't a viable stadium plan in place for Los Angeles, and Stan Kroneke doesn't want to sell the team, but doesn't own the rights to the (poor) stadium plan that the NFL is trying to push. Yes, the Rams do have an opportunity to break their current lease, but where would they go? No, my bet is the current state of affairs is just the build-up to negotiations on a brand new stadium, probably downtown, just north of the existing one. Building new would allow for many of the features the team wants in a new building, at far less cost than trying to renovate the Ed (Jones Dome). BTW, IMO the next team to move is Jacksonville...to either LA or London.
Carroll noted that the season is still six weeks away, saying, “The good part is it’s really early. We have a long time to get him ready.’’
I have trouble getting excited about football when there is baseball to play. I'll check back with this thread in November.
I take comfort in the knowledge that the Bucs are not the Cowboys. Not much else but ya gotta have something and that's it.
Harvin is having surgery - he's going to miss considerable time (10-16 weeks), possibly more if they have to reshape the bone. Probably not going to see him until 2nd half of the season, and he'll miss all of camp. ROUGH training camp this year with major injuries for several teams. Crabtree, Harvin, Pitta...
Yeah, this sucks. Could obviously be much worse, but after all the build up (not to mention money) it's a letdown. Luckily this isn't a team built around Percy Harvin. He was icing on an otherwise pretty impressive cake. And considering we have said we're sticking with a run first offense, it was already a question of how many passes he'd get (more accurately, there has been speculation about how his ego would handle it, and Sidney Rice and Golden Tate). I believe last year we had the lowest number of attempts in the league (although this is weighed down by the early part of the season where we didn't trust Wilson and almost never threw). Still it would have been nice to have that added threat out there, giving Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin some space. We also really, REALLY need Zach Miller.
Honestly, I thought the bigger move for Seattle was Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett. A better pass rush is going to be more important over the course of the season than a single big play guy who has been plagued with inconsistencies. Especially paired with that great secondary. That's turnover differential. Didn't know Zach Miller was hurt, that could be a blow. Is he due back soon?
Yeah, John Schneider is close to be deified out here. We've really got a solid team. I'm not saying this is the year, but this is potentially a year. Even better unless something catastrophic happens this is but one of many potential years. I thought the team giving Browner an extra 200k when they didn't have to was a nice move. He's a steal and everyone knows it. Hopefully we'll be able to keep him after this year. http://seattletimes.com/html/seahawks/2021482271_seahawksnotebook27xml.html 'Sore Foot' . They say he should be back relatively soon.
If every year isn't potentially "the year," then your front office and coaches are doing something wrong.
Seattle will be just fine, without Harvin this is essentially the same team that ripped it up in the 2nd half of last year and they've made a couple of other nice additions. My money would be on Golden Tate stepping up big and Baldwin should be decent in the slot. Some crazy injuries during training camp though, wow.
And Tarvaris has 3 TD passes now. 7/8. I'm glad. He wasn't as bad as 2010 made him look. He fought through injuries and showed some good character. I think with his familiarity with the offense and team camaraderie he'll be one of the top backups in the league. Nothing against Quinn. But I've had a spot for Tarvaris and I'm glad he's performing
Good to see some football last night, even if it is meaningless preseason the games don't count and we aren't going to show you anything we are going to do in the real season time of the year.
The Jets beat the Jags 37-13, but it was an ugly game. When Sanchez plays good, he plays good, but when he plays bad, he plays really bad. He's never mastered being consistently good. I'm anxious to see what Geno Smith can do.
This season will see a first: a SuperBowl in New Jersey! I wonder if there are any plans to have a SuperBowl in Chicagoland? Maybe even L.A., as a goodwill gesture.
I dunno I think some of the best, most epic games are played in harsh conditions. Football is such a great struggle and when you add some snow or heavy rain in it just makes it better. It seems to me at least that having the Super Bowl open to that is a good thing. It's not the Average Bowl, you know.
Yeah, but what if both teams are from warmer cities or play in domed stadiums? I don't think the level of play will be all that "super" if that's the case. Also, teams like the Packers, Bears, Patriots, etc would have an advantage over, say, the Chargers, Texans, and such because they're used to playing in winter conditions. Home field advantage is fine up until the conference championship games, but the Super Bowl site shouldn't offer an advantage to either team (unless the SB happens to be played in their home stadium that year). Then there's the fan experience. Who wants to shell out for Super Bowl tickets only to have to sit in freezing temperatures? It's just incredibly stupid IMHO.
