Conversely, if you're handed a lesson in humility like losing a presidential election, you should cheat, lie, and steal to avoid admitting the truth. I'm glad you're at least decent enough not to go in on Trump's post-election bullshit. Although you've supported one of the most completely amoral men of our time thus far, so...

Yes I have supported many of the things he's done. I've supported many presidents in the past (even if I didn't vote for them) despite their illegal activities. I won't name names, no need to play "bothsidesism" games. Two wrongs don't make a right.
But asking a trusted public official to do something unethical - especially if it's the exact same thing that you feel was just done to you - is wrong. Maybe Trump felt since he's on his way out anyway he has nothing to lose. I don't know what his motivation is - I can't read his mind. But he could at least have waited until after the Georgia runoff to pull this shit. :brood:

Now for the optimism part - yeah you know me! This phone call and it's associated "fuck you" to the GOP could cause a huge shakeup in the GOP that will end up revitalizing and "tightening our shot group" for the future. Toes will be stepped on, tears will be shed, loyalties will be tested, etc etc but these kinds of things have to happen every few years to get out the bad blood and light fires under people.

Dude, it's time to realize that we're watching the GOP self-destruct, much like the Democrats almost did in the 1990s and are starting to right now.

What happened to the Democrats in the 90's that was remotely comparable to this?

After the so-called "Republican Revolution" of Newt and Co, the Democrats wandered in the wilderness for several years. They'd been the majority party for so long that they'd gotten complacent and arrogant. Took a while for them to figure out what had gone wrong. Fortunately, they didn't go so batshit nuts kookoo as the Republicans have recently, but they did look awfully wobbly for a while.

I'm not clear how becoming the minority party for a few years (while still controlling the White House) is remotely comparable to abandoning democratic means and pursuing, however incompetently, a coup. That you try to make those things in any way equivalent is just more bothsidesism and refusing to recognise the unprecedented nature of what's going on.

    What are you six?

I'm relatively certain I did not use the word "stupid". In fact, I know, I said term limits insures only inexperienced people hold office.

Jenee is not always wrong. Term limits is not the right way to deal with the problem. Remember: Donald Trump is a newcomer to politics.

The trend line was there. The Dems just managed their introspection and correction more quickly than the current crop of Republicans.

    Jan 1 went okay.
Jan 2, the electric heater in the bathroom ceiling died just as I was walking in to take a shower. Brr. A replacement unit would require the ceiling to be ripped open.
Jan 3, our credit card was hacked. Waiting for a new account to be set up.
    Jan 4... nothing yet. Yet.

I think what you're trying to say is that it is dumb and stupid that you do not understand the ramifications of term limits.

I would also say a certification test of some sort. If I cannot legally operate a food service, hair salon, or HVAC repair business without proper certification, I think we need something to certify a person is smart enough to be a legislator, president, governor, or other important elected official.

It very well might be! Evolution will fill that niche with new & improved Republicans. Ideally the improved GOP will rise to power right when the various factions of the Democratic party tears the party apart from infighting and finger pointing and so forth. The next few years will be very interesting indeed!

I can sort of relate! On Jan 1 my outside electric cord outlet went Tango Uniform. No circuit breaker was blown, yet all the outside Christmas lights were off. Known good electronic devices (lamps, vaccums, etc) would not work in the outlet but would work in other outlets. Kind of a puzzler. I'll call an electrician eventually - I only use that outlet for Christmas lights anyway.
