Well that was actually the largest part of the botched process, because banning just from the RedRoom was the actual intention, but John misread the instruction. Then things got out of hand too quickly, and fog of war took over. The sharing of PMs is what ultimately swayed me to agree with shootER that a full ban was the better choice. A series of fuck-ups isn't as interesting as a grand conspiracy involving political views, but real life is very seldom as interesting as fiction.
Hasn't been arbitrary. On gturner, review our rules about coming in with nothing but spam. Ron Paul and Volpone both posted racist statements outside of the Red Room, bot bans were for trolling outside the RedRoom (and only week long bans). Faceman, yeah, that might meet your claim. But he said something really offensive. I would hope you would agree it was unacceptable.

O2C jumped in explained it clear AND why it wasn't necessary as I recall - and his approach should have been a lesson to Gul and John, who were content to argue ad infinitum rather then accepting it was a shit move. They, along with Tamar and others left because they knew what sort of personalities Gul and Anc had and why they weren't the sort of people who would be fair owners and mods. Oh I can be objective, I have to be doing what I do for a living. But my history here means that I have too many here who dislike me, and that means I can't be a unifying figure that people can feel confident in. The " @gturner spammed" narrative has been disproven. My thread examining his most recent 10 RR threads (which you ignored) exposed those claims as bogus. The claim about his excessive posting frequency is also bogus. Even if he had been limited to 3 threads per day, he was well under those totals. Political content you don't agree with is not "spam." @gturner was participating in the RR in exactly the way the RR was designed. You were lucky to have someone contributing content on a consistent basis the way he did. @gturner was an asset to WF, an asset that wasn't valued or appreciated. I don't know who @gturner is or why he dedicated so much time here, but WF was better for it. @Dinner is not a racist. He opposes radical islam & sharia law. He finds (as do most) islamic culture antithetical to western values and doesn't want islamic culture & backward attitudes to continue to creep into western nations. It was aimed at somebody here. In the past, there has been much outcry when a flame has been too vulgar or targets a family member. I thought it was excessive, but I also had no problem being told by others that I was wrong. Note that Faceman is no longer banned.

It was only spam in the context of him having by far the hightest post per day ratio. On other boards there are people who post more frequently. The reason a lot had no time for him is because he didn't debate. He just posted his shit and doubled down on it when challenged, even if he ended up coming out with utter crap. I've already said several times the past few days that the only way I would support Dinner's ban is if a new anti-racism rule was introduced, he was given reasonable time to adapt and he ignored it.
