    Linkey

What's going on in Washington? I had, until recently, thought it to be a pro-gun state. Now I'm seeing all kinds of things like this coming out of the state, and the truth is... I'm skerred for you. Will you register your evil black rifles?

I went down to Olympia last Tuesday and met with Sen. Kline. He is not optimistic about the bill making it to floor. He was quite upset.

He's from my district (37th) but was either not up for re-election or didn't have a challenger.

If you had read the original article that the opinion piece linked to, you would see that the primary sponsor of the bill (and head of the Democratic Caucus in the Senate) Ed Murray knows it won't go anywhere, so no need to worry about me.

    He's running for Mayor.

Tried to hit me up for money when he first announced. Apparently he bought WA United For Marriage's list b/c he came at by talking about how he originally wrote the bill, yadda yadda yadda.

Talk about weak sauce. You're running for Mayor of Seattle, the most liberal city in a state that just voted in marriage equality and whose legislature is removing all gender based language from our Code. What the hell are you going to do as Mayor to improve things?!?!? Not to mention it was awfully presumptive. Talking about how I was one of his supporters and how 'we' were gonna change shit in Seattle, blah, blah....

Gotta agree with Apostle, some of the things I'm hearing from the WA state legislature make me feel ill at ease. To even see this proposed, even if it won't fly is concerning to say the least.

First off, b/c it was a throw away bill for effect no one even read it. Even being a throw away bill they went ahead and took out the inspection part.

Secondly, you do realize that anyone in the leg can propose a bill, it doesn't mean it will even get heard in a committee, much less get out of committee, much, much less getting a vote on the floor, much much much less winning a majority, much, much, much, much less doing all the above in the other house, much, much, much, much, much less make it out of reconciliation, much, much, much, much, much, much, much less get voted through both houses and get signed.

And just in case you think I am being pedantic, see last sessions Reproductive Parity Act (insurance plans that cover maternity care must also cover family planning. Every plan in the state does already, but in prep for the opening of markets under the ACA) which passed in both Houses but was killed by parliamentary procedure at the end of session.

Even the primary sponsor of the bill admitted it wasn't going anywhere.

You want to dig into all the crazy shit that gets submitted in Florida in a given session?

Hell even here, on the other side of the spectrum you have Sen Don Benton of Vancouver (Volpone's territory) introducing a bill based on a Glenn Beck fomented UN Conspiracy on New Urbanism (Agenda 21) and banning the government from having anything to do with the principles of modern land use (no mixed-use development, no relaxing of zoning laws, etc).

Don't disagree that there is crazy. Those legislators should be rated and feathered for their general ass hatter. However when there is a direct "fuck you" to the 4th amendment, yeah that does concern me a shit ton more, even if it's so called "throw away" legislation. Think about it. How many times does this shit get filed. Eventually the stars align and BLAM! No all of a sudden you have a law (NDAA, current 2A attacks).

We'll see. The language has been taken out and even so the existing bill is unlikely to move anywhere.

And what has he done? Ask for gun control bills to get a vote? It's unlikely they will.

Uh, you mean he's begun to mobilize his campaign apparatus to push for it. Do you really think he's going to give up if it doesn't pass in this congress? He's going to push for it so hard in the second half of this term after he spends the first half campaigning to get gun grabbers elected.

"What's he done to gun owners, except try to rob them of their rights?"

Am I supposed to be thankful he cant' do what he wants and suck him off? Jeeez.

And let's not forget one important thing......

The nut who wanted a law concerning Agenda 21 in Anc's state was honest about his intentions. He gets no "cover fire" from the other Republicans.

The nuts who keep attacking the 2nd Amendment do get "cover fire". We hear constantly from Democrats that they don't want to outlaw guns. That they support gun rights. Yet these little bills attacking the rights of gun owners keep popping up.

And in the back of my mind and if you're a rational person the back of your mind Obama only needs one Supreme Court pick for the anti-gun groups to be in a position to receive support from the Supreme Court.

    Heller was 5-4 after all......

Remember back in the day when you swore up and down that if the Dems won majorities in 06 they would impeach Bush? Then I called you out for your paranoid idiocy and proposed a bet, which you agreed to and then tried to ignore until enough people called you out for being a squelching bitch?

Wanna do it again on a AWB redux? Same terms, other person chooses your AV for a month or 200 posts, whichever is longer.

I don't remember said bet. Nor being called out on it since if I made such a bet I'd honor it. Perhaps you're confusing me with someone else.

Also point out where I'm wrong in this case? I never said anything was going to be passed and made into law.

What I said is Democrats keep talking about how they support gun rights and the right to own guns and yet these little bills like the one in this thread or the one in Wisconsin that would require turning in guns within 90 days keep popping up.

We also have Obama's stance on guns long before he was President. He didn't support gun rights. We also have him talking to Sarah Brady about doing things quietly to ban guns. We also have his bitter clinger comment.

I've no doubt that Obama is not a supporter of gun rights and would like to see guns banned. Just like the bulk of the Democrat party.

They say in public they support gun owners but their actions and past words on the subject keep screaming otherwise.

But unlike most of my fellow gun owners who think it can and will happen tomorrow that guns are banned or so severely restricted that might as well be banned I see it happening as long term. First we get some "reasonable" restrictions. Then those don't work because a bunch of people get killed in one shot. So we get more "reasonable" restrictions. Then we get a liberal Supreme Court that upholds this "reasonable" restrictions and in fact opens the door for more sever restrictions. Twenty years later guns still won't be "banned" but it will be so difficult to get and use them that they might as well be banned.

You seriously claiming you don't remember it?

I can even tell you what your AV was. I felt bad over having you hound you to get you to pay up so I took it easy on you and just had you use an anti-UA picture (Bryant-Denny as a toilet bowl).

    Nope. Don't remember it.

    But it doesn't matter.

I'm not wrong in this case since I'm not claiming any of these proposed laws are going to pass and become law. I know these proposed laws won't pass and become law much less even make it to a vote.

I am correctly saying that while Democrats go around on the national level talking about how they support gun rights you can see from three things:

    #1 Past actions
#2 What they say when they think no one is recording them
#3 The fact that laws keep getting proposed

that they in fact do not support gun rights.

Throw in that Obama may get a SCOTUS pick and we would see a Supreme Court that turns from supporting gun rights in general to one that is hostile to gun rights.

I also do not believe that guns will be banned "tomorrow" just that over the long term gun ownership and use will get severely restricted that they might as well be banned.

So really I don't know what you're getting upset about.

And it's dead. It and every other Senate gun control bill. Today was the last day for policy (non budget) bills to make it out of committees, and none of the Senate bills did.

The only surviving bill is one that made it out of a House committee dealing with background checks for those without CPL permits, but even if it passes the House the Senate Law and Justice Committee has hinted that it might not even get debated in committee.

    Told all y'all.

As displayed in this very thread you have a history of 'not remembering' past bets.

You tried to weasel out the time before by first claiming not to remember any bet, then when provided links by making the absurd claim that I had to double agree, since I only agreed once (by proposing the terms which you accepted) but didn't come back and agree with your agreement it wasn't valid. :wtf:

However enough people gave you shit that you finally gave in and changed it, although for only half the agreed upon time.

    Still better than expected. :techman:
