I know right, there was one in New England last week. Well they do say trends hit the coasts first...
Reprehensible and inexcusable. However: I suspect there's more to this than any sort of "fundamentalist" faith.
"Here are some things done on American soil in the name of Christianity. The Ku Klux Klan burned down black churches, raped women, murdered civil rights workers, murdered children and terrorized communities for over a century. The Neo-Nazis all acted and continue to act in the name of white Christian supremacy. The Army of God fatally attacks abortion clinics and doctors across the country. The Covenant, the Sword and the Arm of the Lord targets local police and federal agents. The federal building in Oklahoma City. The attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan and the successful assassinations of Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, John Lennon, and Abraham Lincoln, all perpetrated by Christians."
Perpetrated by Christians and done in the name of Christianity are two seperate things. Oswald was a communist. Booth didn't want Lincoln to give blacks the vote. Hinkly was obsessed with Jodi Foster.
I'm confused. I thought the Christian method for handling witches involved stakes and wood (as opposed to Steaks and Charcoal)
You posted between me reading and posting. I can see religious extremism in other parts of the country as well. Yes we have the hide up in the hills sorts while the city has there own brand mainly of islam converts. Not a lot of Islam in this part of the world.
Heh. When I lived in Tulsa, I actually met a few Christian pastors who were recovering meth addicts. I also met more unmarried couples living together and more divorced folks in OK than in any other state I've lived in. It's kind of funny when a girl you work with is cheating on her not-husband/baby's daddy but still has the nerve to tell you you're going to hell for not believing in Christ. Maybe other parts of Oklahoma are not as bad, but Tulsa is a pretty fucked up place...
Talwars actually, this is a good one http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/88EIT/TALWAR.aspx and I can get you one for $150 less than the price there.
I am not claiming that religious extremism only happens in the bible belt simply that I expect religious extremism from the most religious parts of the country. I find this to be self evident. Also, I don't find a lot of religious extremism from Islam, no doubt, mainly because they are something like 1% of the population at most. Kind of like how we don't see a lot of extremist Jews trying to force their beliefs on everyone. I do see a lot of extremist Christians try to force their beliefs on to people but that is mainly because Christians make up something like 90% of the population.
A few months after I started posted here, Katrina happened and I made some stupid ass commenet similar to Dinner's about white racists and the South. I was rightfully dogpiled for it. Goddamn it, I miss rep sometimes.
Religious zealotry is simply a medium that individuals use to express their dysfunction. The crazy comes first. The crazy is the source of the violence.
Let's not forget one branch of Mormons (kinda Christians, still a religion) in Northern Arizona/Southern Utah where the 70+ year old church elders take multiple teen brides and pretty much drive the young men (their competition) out of town. Good luck charging them with statutory rape when the whole town is in on it, and families willingly let their daughters get plowed by Mister Burns.
So are:- 1) Actions by Israelis in the name of Judaism; 2) Actions by Radicalised Jihadists in the name of Islam; and 3) Actions by militant atheists in the name of atheism.... ....when reflected upon the larger social groups they are associated with. But people associated with any of those social groups rarely seem to get the distinction you are affording to Christians on this occasion. I wonder why that is.....
We had a Muslim (recent convert, trying to force his views on coworkers ) beheading in Oklahoma just a few weeks ago, try to keep up.
It must be because I'm racist, right? Notice I said nothing about those other groups. Lefties like to make that distinction when it comes to Islam, but not Christianity. For some reason they don't mind offending Christians, but God forbid we offend Muslims. It's perfectly ok to put a crucifix in a cup of pee, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone can't draw a picture of Muhammad, even though they did it years before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
