I disagree with the notion that being a "good corporate citizen" means somehow not speaking out or what have you.

And I think that opinion about brand favorability is not necessarily directly connected to profits. There are, presumably, a number of people who never have been customers of Papa John's who went from a neutral to a negative opinion. Meanwhile, all its current customers may have kept the same opinion, despite the anti-Obamacare position. And there may be some who will go out of their way to buy PJ because of it.

Depending on how you are preparing it, tofu isn't necessarily healthier. Tofu is best when used to soak up lots of delicious sauce in a stir fry or soup. Yesterday I actually made some salt and pepper tofu with corn flour coating and then put it in a stirfry. Absolutely delicious but definitely not healthy!

Depends how it's prepared. I like it marinated and thinly sliced to be fried in stir fries. If it's going to be used in larger chunks, needs at least 2-3 water changes and a good sauce.

Anyone using tofu as a meat replacement is doing it wrong. :bailey:

I've made meat and tofu combinations. Can be very tasty if you get it just right.
It's just a pain in the butt to cook tofu.

So it's kind of like the Chick-fil-A controversy, only coming from the other side. Except for how the employees of these places now view their top management which, long term, may do Papa John et al. more damage than Obamacare.

I'm skeptical about this "brand index" measuring "buzz." If it doesn't use random-sample polling, it would be easily skewed by a relatively small number of people and of questionable value as a measure of what the overall population actually thinks.

I guess...if you categorize all chain restaurants as fast food. Denny's, IHoP, etc. IOW, if it isn't a one-of-a-kind local restaurant. Seems a bit broad a definition, IMO.

I may have posted it before, but a late friend of mine coined the term "TGIAppleBenniChiligan's" to describe those kinds of restaurants.

While the food at all is pretty much the same, Applebee's is probably the worst.

I live in a nice area. The closest applebees is in a nice area.

And yet, we are taking to calling it the Ghetto Night Club.

    I hope it fails. :|

Ironically, they shut down all the applebees in the ghetto in Memphis.

So much anti-Christian sentiment, so few words.

Do you think Jesus wanted other peoples' businesses to fail?

Years ago, The Warden bartended at the one on Stage and Bartlett Blvd. When ever anyone puked, she'd call me down there to clean it up because nobody that worked there would go near it. :)

He'll probably say Applebees is the moneychangers.

Love how they use Jesus's one hissy-fit to justify everything rotten.

It's not fucking gourmet, but it's not TV dinners, either.

I just don't like the chirpy service, and sports bar knucklehead atmosphere.
I like my restaurants as quiet as a library, and the service to be haggard, and beaten down by life.

Jesus had more than one hissy fit. The weirdest one was when he got angry that a fig tree didn't have any figs. He was hungry and even though figs were out of season, Jesus cursed it and made it shrivel up and die. I would have gone with, "Make the fig tree provide me with out-of-season but delicious figs," but then I'm not divine.

Off topic--but hey, the topic is a horseshit article that the original poster even had issues with--but this is a chance to put my three month exile to care for my Mom into context:

I was sitting in a house with no Internet and barely any cell phone coverage, ten miles from the nearest town large enough to have a "population" sign. If you drove another 20 miles or so, you could get to a town that has an Applebees--which is THE go-to casual dining location in the area.

It was also the middle of winter and I was sitting around, watching my mother die slowly while my life was going on without me, half a continent away, but I digress. Actually it was a pretty mild winter and her condition was improving the entire time I was there. But my life was still passing me by. And the best I could hope fore was that someone would come sit with her for a couple hours so I could drive 40 minutes to get to an Applebees.
