I do find it funny how EA DICE is throwing the PC version in everyone's face as much as they can and keeping the console version so close to their chest. The Beta was crappy to me and they say it was based off a build that was over a month old.... I'll pick it up tomorrow. We'll see.
I got the game at midnight, and then played for two hours. I'm at work now. Getting the game at midnight was not as fun as I had thought; the crowd sucked. They did a lot of things right, and they did some things bad. What They Did Right: The maps are beautiful. In my opinion, they max the hardware out. From multiplayer, it appears that they game is fairly authentic in the weaponry available. Team play is excellent, and suppressing fire really shifts the gaming universe. Really and truly. What They Did Wrong: Helicopters. I think I maybe saw one person able to control them as I was playing. The maps are almost too big. I might just have to dust off the PC for this game, to be honest.
There is nothing as hardcore awesome as two buddies on team chat, in a tank, both engineers, slaughtering infantry.
I'm gonna wait for MW3 and see how people like one or the other for awhile before I dive in. GTA IV is still taking up a lot of my free time.
They are going to HAVE to add a private match option that starts at 0 other players. I WANT so badly to practice flying a helicopter, but feel like crap now because for some reason other people get in! I was a pretty good PC helicopter pilot back in the day with the Desert Combat mod, and would like to develop similar skill for the XBOX. P.S. The wife is handling week one of her widowhood very well.
Flying a helicopter is awesome if you have a good gunner. The thing that SUCKS about this game is that it is so hard to get on the same servers. It's as if there is a warlock with a switch who decides whether or not you'll get to join the same server. Apparently they have had these problems since BF2 Bad Company.
If they gave more flexibile map selection options, I would love this. For example: I love maps with helicopters. So, I continually have to quit games, and restart on maps I like.
I should give this game another sppin... To be honest, I haven't played it since MW3 came out. I tried to fly a chopper and a jet, but realized that I had no clue... So I tried to get through the SP mode to see if there was a tutorial in there somewhere and just lost interest. The SP mode on this sucks, but the MP is much better.
I purchased the PC version of BF3 a couple of days ago along with a buddy when they were having the sale for half off. Unfortunately, EA uses Origin, a knock off of Steam. The game downloaded fine, but I was pulling my hair out to try and join a game with my friend. I was NEVER able to actually join a server, even after the suggested methods of opening up ports on my router. Online tech chat refunded my purchase after a 25 minute queue. I will never purchase a game from Origin ever again and probably stay away from EA products in the future.
I'm getting pretty dang good piloting the helicopters in game. The transport copters are great and far under-used. You can stick a squad inside - pilot plus five or six players. You can repair in flight with extra players, and cap quickly. Also, the difference between a good attack copter run is a pilot who gives a good gun platform for his gunner, and one who doesn't. I got several compliments from gunners last night.
Just in case you haven't seen this yet, check out this amazing kill during an air battle in BF3: [yt=RendeHook Awesome Kill]FOaGhE_sejI[/yt] I think I just got my pants pregnant!
