Why a scope? Seems like a good use of an ACog to me. And does H&K not use Rails?

Mostly because the scope in question is about five or six hundred dollars cheaper than an ACOG. :D Also, isn't an ACOG 3x? I'd like a little more power than that.

I've thought about http://www.robertrtg.com/hklowprofilescopemount.html these, and they're certainly more versitile, but to be honest I just like the looks of the old style claw mounts better.

Do eeeeet! You must do eeeeeet!!!

By the way, I love that big, bold text on the claw mount indicates the "Shooting Direction" (in German).

I think this is a great idea. Futzing with weapons is fun. I want pics when you are done.

Yeah, but isn't that basically an assault rifle? If you want a semi-auto sniper rifle, get an M14. IMO.

Eh, I'm lazy. I know rails = I like rails. What about on the heat shields. Do they not make a rails system for that? Where you mount your tac lights and lasers and shit?

No. It's a 7.62 N battle rifle just like an M14...only more accurate.

    See above. :nyer:

Actually, the end result will be similar to what Viggo Mortensen used in G.I. Jane...but with a target bull barrel.

Someone used my link to imfdb.org!

Since it seems like you're such a huge fan of the movie, you should flesh the article out a little bit!

Oh I dunno about that. I love the M14 but a good case has been made that it is a better firearm.

From the limited reading I've done on the subject, the FN-FAL was probably a better weapon than the M14.

There are some good books about US small arms development from that time and I need to read them. :garamet:

It's true. I'd still rather have the weapon that was forged in the fires of WWII and perfected in Vietnam than some furriner gun. :bergman:

The G3 was forged in the fires of WWII and didn't need to be perfected. :nyer:

Yeah...the concensus of everything I've read puts the FAL at the top overall. Between the FAL, G3/PTR-91, and the M14/M1a, the G3/PTR is considered to be the most accurate and most rugged (if not quite most dependable). The fact that you can get magazines for a dollar a piece doesn't hurt either.

What kills it is the horrible ergonomics, crappy trigger, and the fact that the bolt doesn't hold open on the last round.

I would think having a crappy trigger would not help with accuracy at all.

    It doesn't.

BTW, the crappy trigger was actually done on purpose. Part of West Germany's requirements was that it could be dropped ten meters onto cement without it going off.

Has the aftermarket not corrected the first two?

Yes on the trigger (Bill Springfield did a wonderful job on mine).

No (at least not that I'm aware of) on the bolt hold open.

    :diacanu:

I figured the bolt locking to the rear would be a bit much for the aftermarket. ;)

Yeah...a bit. The charging handle isn't even connected to the carrier group. They'd have to totally re-design the upper pretty much from the ground up.

Yeah. Hard charging, hard nosed, red blooded Americans carrying the M14's daddy stomped the guys toting your rifle's daddy into a bloody puddle. :bergman:

Fight Fight Fight Fight Fight!!! :D

Seriously though, them nazi bastiges could sure produce some fantastic weapons. But they couldnt standardize on shit and their supply system sucked balls. Come on, you gotta admit that the MG42and strumgewehr did beat the BAR and the M1 though fantastic weapons they were.
