Unless it's reinstituting the assault weapons ban, it's not nearly enough.

An assault weapons ban wouldn't be nearly enough either.

Exactly. The category is nebulous. Plus, mere handguns are responsible for most gun deaths.

So how about we ban them all, or at least force users to go through rigorous licensure processes? :)

damn... memories of army cadet years, right there.
if that Browning model is anything like the Canadian Arsenals version, full auto capability is actually built into the design and it's only a matter of unblocking the selector (which is why it became a "prohibited" gun here around the early 80s whereas it was previously "restricted")

    A magazine-fed semi-automatic rifle with a pistol grip.

So all we need to do is remove the pistol grip from our AR-15s? Cool. Easy enough.

Don't educate them. The less they know about firearms the better.

Removing the magazine would do more to lessen gun deaths.

I'm not sure why they call it a "pistol grip" anyway since it's clearly substituting for something else you want to be gripping.

In theory, you could cut someone with your wit.

In practice, you'd struggle to define it as a blunt instrument.

It'd be like being hit with a stick made of that green goop they sell to kids as ectoplasm.

No, of course not. It wouldn't be an assault weapon anymore. Totally safe.

It would tend to decrease rate of fire and increase reload time, especially for untrained or inexperienced users, thereby making it at least marginally less effective as a tool of mass murder.
