One assumes any veteran cop that's been working in the same city as Batman must have learned how to defend themselves pretty well over the years, otherwise they'd have been taken out by random goons long ago. Even regular cops in the real world take self-defense training. And again, if you've read the comics you'd know she's no regular cop.

Harley Quinn storms a Gotham police station in broad daylight with a single-shot non-lethal weapon and is taken down neither by the half-dozen cops she encounters or the SWAT team that should've been on the scene within seconds. One cop with one pistol would've been sufficient to end her rampage, but none seem to be on hand.

I am seriously unimpressed with the Gotham PD as depicted in this film. I see no reason--literally--why Montoya should be any different. :bailey:
I know the character from the comics, but, again, movies have to stand on their own. A gap in a film's logic cannot be dismissed with "the comics explain that."

I kinda let it go because her plan is so batshit crazy that maybe it would work since no reasonable person would anticipate it. :diacanu:

No you don't understand, it's no longer about show, not tell. You can now have stories that are convoluted, but as long as the writer/producer/director explains it all later on social media and as long as you read the countdown comic before hand, it's all good. This is the new norm for film making and it's totally acceptable.

You do know there's like...a shit ton of women comic fans? And that many who are my age grew up with Harley when she first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series?

I'm not much into any superhero film (even Black Panther I only say through once), but not everything is for or about white cishet men. Crazy concept, I know.

I just watched this. There were a lot of bullshit moments and this definitely wasn't for kids, but I liked it a lot better than Suicide Squad and was overall entertained.

Tiny nitpick though. Canary could have used her powers several times throughout the movie and didn't. Zaz wasn't that menacing and allowed a teenager to rob him. The guy from Gotham played a better Zaz. Also, pretty convenient Batman wasn't around. I guess he was busy with Superman or something.

seemed like they just grabbed every female relative in the bat family they could for a filler episode, and fudged their backstories (Isn't Huntress supposed to be Bruce Wayne's kid in an alt-earth, not too mention Cassandra Cain's depiction?).

and honestly, I hate Margot Robbie in the role almost as much as I thought Jared Leto was a lameass Joker... If Batman was punk rock, they'd be Good Charlotte and Green Day.

Most modern depictions of Huntress have her as an anti-mob vigilante not related to Bats, but taken under his cape to wean her off using lethal force.

I don't consider those groups punk rock. I consider them rock with some punk style. Sort of like how country fried rock is not actually country.

I grew up in the day when rock covered a lot. There were a lot of bands that incorporated a sound that could have been labelled something else, yet was rock. Greenday and good charlotte incorporated punk like some bands incorporated ska into their style rather than the blues. Of course they are not Punk. They just had the punk riff which when you really get down to it having an established thing was sort of anti-punk in itself, so claiming a punk thing actually causes the claim to be immediately destroyed simply because punk was very anarchitic and against labels in general. So your claims in and of themselves are undermining the very reality of punk.

meh-I grew up in the middle of one of the more significant 80s hard core communities. I doubt you're qualified to 'splain to me on defining the basic ethos -or the oft conflicting expression of it- in punk.
And really, anything after about 92 is cosplay before it's anything else. The aforementioned don't even qualify as punk rock... they're pop bands in punk costumes.

You sound like an anarchist when I tell them their political philosophy has a half life of about .2 nanoseconds. But then again, if my fashion involved sticking large safety pins through parts of my body and elmers glue into my overcolored straw hair I might be a tad irritable also. It is OK, even I ponder why mosh pits started when pearl jam came on. The 90's were a horrible decade of posers we called grunge.

Let us just agree to agree greenday and good charlotte are not actually punk. They clearly belong in pop-rock and we were not arguing.

I can cop to a bit of pride of place in the annals of Canadian punk (which itself was pretty significant in context at the time) May have been a support player, but was part of it ;)
Seeing that we're hijacking this thread about a shit poser movie anyway... Remember that picture book 1977/1988 that had the pic of Johnny Rotten on the cover? That was one of the first things that really inspired me when I was 12-13, and the people in it seemed kind of magical/heroic to me.
Flash forward and now my mug is in three separate "histories".
It's tiny... but having never been all that into material wealth, a bit of immortal fame is pretty satisfying

To get back onto the subject I am a little tired of Harley being the only popular female american semi villain/anti-hero.

I have always had an argument with Harley fans. Bella Swan is less of a representation of the abuse loving female sex object who is nothing without a man than harley fucking quinn. She is litterally abused to the point of psychosis abuse seeking. The joker gave her mental problems which cause her to actually seek out physical and emotionally abusive men, and girls are jumping on this bandwagon worse than team edward fans. I have never been a harley fan. She is not even wanting to be a person. She wants to be arm candy for the joker, and is his all loving fist magnet, and this is romanticized. Talk about your worsty fanboy imagined female stereotypes.

I am supposed to be afraid of this person? Why don't I just lead her back to her boyfriend in a friendly manner and have him beat her up for me? Thanks for stopping that one battard. This is why you suck. Only such a person could lead us to the jared leto joker. Any joker who has a harley quinn and has not cut her up into little pieces for fun is not a joker I am afraid of. That was the fun of the best joker ever. He blew his own people up when it amused him.

Anyway, just another reason why I tend to hate popular batman things. Oh, and I was hoping the COVID break would take out the harley quinn costumes at the anime cons. It was a joke when it was the years of chi and yuna, but this is not anime. Save it for comic con you wannabe con trash.

I can get the annoyance of having those people who think they are fans because they liked something that was completely manufactured for a crossover audience. I am looking squarely at you anyone who thinks they are anime fans for liking Pokemon, naruto. or any of the trash that made it onto cartoon network and even adult swim. I have just hung around enough punk purists to know razzing them can be a bit of fun. You are always going to have posers and people co-opting style into the pop culture. Things like the big bang theory make me want to ram large dice up a person's ass until their intestines explode, and I am pretty sure the next con I go to I am going to have to coat a rick and morty fan in sechuan sauce and feed him to the local homeless. Yes, rick and morty fans have officially become worse than steven universe fans. You have done the impossible and you all need to rot in the eternal flames of trumpian hell.

You are not getting this, there is no redemption. We had a billion batman movies before we got a good joker. We do not need 400 harley quinns before we get a decent one. I am more tired of fucking batman than I am of fucking avengers. I am not watching any more of this crap. I am over mainstream american comic book recreations. Hot topic has enough fodder for the next 1 million halloweens with all the harley stuff. It is like trump tweets at this point. We do not need a harley for every mood some lazy cosplayer with no imagination has.

Can we have Harley fight Elsa? That is the last and final grasp at corporate greed in female costumes there is. We could combine the two and have harley elsa quin. How much different are they? You turn else'a hair into multi colored braided pigtails, you slap some more dayglow make-up on her, and give her a white baby-doll tshirt and a blue flowing skirt. There will be no other costumes on the shelves for girls, and most guys, at that point.

I am glad disney bought every fucking pop culture megahit ever. At least now I can avoid everything under the disney banner and be happy.
