Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

I think that's part of what makes the HQ cartoon so watchable... we know it's supposed to happen with Ivy but we actually get to see how. All while she actually does go through a fantabulous emancipation from the Joker and gets over that not unreasonable list.

can we continue the Margot Robbie hate over her trying to remake Tank Girl?
I mean, the original was bad and all.. but awesomely so. Like if they ate more scenery you'd think they shot on location in candy land. Except the icing sugar was triple cut club coke.
This is like peak junkie Courtney demanding she should get to play Nancy Spungen.

I don't know if I hate Margo Robbie. My hate is really for Harley because she is a weak and nothing character. Her whole creation is about being weak and subservient to a man. She goes there from being a strong professional woman in most of the origin stories. So it really plays into the woman needing a man to dominate her so she can be whole ethos. That is the character Robbie was playing, and in that area she did pull through. The other problem with Harley I have is she plays a dumb tank while being without special powers. That is great for the harley role, but it totally pulls me out of what should be her playing a tricky rogue who is not going to be able to take the heavy blows so she stays out of direct hand to hand ass kickery.

Now Tank Girl writing may be very different for Robbie because Tank Girl has the tank. Look, I liked the original for it's 80's fun. I am also one of the people who watched howard the duck a million times and had fun with it. I know TG was probably 90's, but it had 80's style. It was a goofy comic book movie that I still like watching. Yes, some of the tank girl scenes were over the top, but the movie was going for camp so I liked it for being campy. I could appreciate something more serious and less goofball if done right. I see no reason why MR cannot pull that off. I guess she is to pretty and cute and TG was not about being pretty and cute. Robbie will have to lose that girly prance she has to be boot stomping like TG. TG is much more gender bending than HQ is. Really TG should be played as extremely tomboyish if not completely trans male like. Even Hit girl would be too feminine for a TG if I remember the comic well.

I will give that a chance because I do not hate Robbie as far as I know. It is really Harley that I have no respect for, but I cannot say Robbie played a bad harley.

I think most of my issue is the subcultural appropriation angle.

On a tangent to that, seeing the CHUDs shit their bricks over season 2 of Harley Quinn because Harlivy became canon has been hilarious.

Wasn't there a time not too long ago when guys would've been the first in line for girl-on-girl action and not sobbing into their Wheaties because Kiteman got cucked outta a solid 9/10 woman?

Could you imagine the "That's my girlfriend" with Jet except with Robbie being all lipstick about it? I mean, we all got the actual subtext from having read the first run comix, but now? It'd pale next to H/I animated and just seem like pandering/gratification.

Ivy's only 9/10 if you forget the whole "wants to kill most of humanity because they kill plants" thing. And that (unless you're Harley, whose Joker toxin seems to mix favourably with it) you need regular shots of anti-venom to be able to even TOUCH Ivy without severe illness, let alone fuck her.

8/10, bearing that in mind.
