Board Maintenance and Updating

You know, you can all hate me for this, but I thought about half the ideas in Anc's first troll post in this thread seemed worthwhile.

Eh, I don't know. I've said it before, but I despise the way Facebook and Twitter works for any kind of organized discussion. I've seen board go to that kind of format, and it just doesn't feel right. I'm an old fashioned kind of guy. I like my message boards static, and able to accept long, hate filled diatribes.

No thank you. I will not be posting with my Twitter account, nor do I suspect there will be other who will want to.

I don't understand the approach you lot are taking over the boards recently. There seems to be no attempt to find out what people might actually want. Rather bulldozing in with new ideas and hoping they stick. A distinct touch of "we think it's a good idea and that's all that matters".

What if the "Hootsuite" look doesn't work? Will you take it down?

Quite. Plus, unlike most boards out there, this one is a board of a relatively static, aging membership. There is comfort in familiarity. I think that when the upograde to XenForo happened it was necessary since the old software was on it's last legs and constantly breaking down. But the board seem to function without breakdowns now, so why do we need to totally change it again? It's not like changing the look of the board will somehow make hoards of people visit and sign up overnight.

Seems like another thing that's not been thought out properly.

It was a joke, yes. I was sure Anc's "You think you hate it now, wait 'til you try it." comment, and my posting of the family truckster would have given that away.

Yuck. I don't go to twitter because of that. I prefer my forums in separate places. Helps to keep the rules in place

Indeed. Jokes about board functions should be restricted to the Red Room. May seem a petty objection, but when you're (unfairly) labelled as a troll for trying to use the Help Desk, it's simply unacceptable for owners/mods/admin to be doing so themselves.

You know, I like Anc. We agree on a great many subjects. He's a decent chap. But he nonetheless needs to stop and think about how everything is going down because it's really not that different from all the things he objected to under previous owners.

When I was a mod I was told mods were to be held to a higher standard. Now this is bit longer applied I expect to be made a mod again or, at the very least, be given Shelter acces as an ex member of "staff".

No, Face, you can't troll in the Help Desk. Leave it to you to always step as far over the line as possible. Anc was joking, we're not creating a HootSuite/Twitter board, although Packard may have now given him ideas (curses Packard). If anything, it's a prime example of some people needing to unclench. A simple joke escalated to cries of rebellion. Seriously, unclench. The stress relief will do you good. That said, you got your shot in, Face, but that's enough.

If there is anything else said in this Help Desk thread, it will have to be related to the maintenance issue itself.
