Setting aside whether it goes far enough this seems like a no brainer. Every child should have healthcare regardless of their parents’ wealth or ability to navigate byzantine and punitive social services registration.

Also, it would actually SAVE the government money.

What’s the downside?

Have you met the republicans? The downside is poor kids might get healthcare. Brown kids might get healthcare. Female children might get healthcare. Non-english speaking kids, or non-US born children might get healthcare. non-christian kids might get healthcare. avocado toast eating liberal kids might get healthcare. Kids might get vaccinated. It would cost money. It is socialism/communism.

There is all sorts of downsides to this on the right.

Throw some aid for Israel in there, maybe it'll win a few votes.

I can see Susan Collins enthusiastically voting against this bill, even though she represents an economically stagnant area. Because the free market is a better solution, always!

The entire right wing lost the right to cry about a slippery slope from socialism to communism after salivating for Trump to be dictator, and/or passively allowing the Republican party to morph into the Trump party.
They lost the right to say their guns are for fighting tyranny for the same fucking reason.

It would be an incredible start to protecting children's health. The downside is the health corporations that will try to increase "donations" to their favorite politicians to stop it cold because it might eat into their bottom line.

I would love to see such a bill succeed. It should have been seen as barbaric a long time ago that children aren't covered in the event they're hurt or, hell, just making sure they have healthy bodies. That's just a basic social contract.

Every kid that survives because of this will grow up and realize the arguments against public healthcare are bullshit, and vote Democrat, and run as Democrats.
And the conservative grip on power will slip a little more, and a little more, and a little more.
So kids have to die for "freedom".

You guys are not taking into account the most important people here. Those are health insurance companies. If people got medicaid for their children they might not pay for medical insurance for them, and then how can the insurance company hold healthy children hostage for health plans? There is a whole lot of legal pressure to maintain health insurance for children because if you don't CPS might step in or the other parent might get full custody in divorce. Thgen when you figure most kids are on their parent's health plans, which means you have to have a health plan to put your kid on your health plan you are really going to lose a whole lot of money for the most important people in the healthcare industry, and that is the people who own stock in health insurance companies.

This is never going to happen under a Biden or republican presidency. The only possibility of ever getting this by the white house would to be to put a Bernie, Warren, or other progressive in the white house, and even before that you would need to get over fifty percent of the senate, and there is no way the house even brings it up under Trump's dickheads watch.

I understand Joe Biden can safely express his support for this bill at present, but if it ever got by the legislature you would see the true dark brandon wake the fuck up and laser shoot it down like he had the reactions of a teenage twitch FPS champion.

Most Western have socialized medicine for all of their citizens, including children. Can you point to epidemics of "irresponsible procreation and single parenthood, which directly fuels crime and incarceration rates" in those other countries? Last time I checked the USA had the highest incarceration rates among western nations by a mile.
