January 2025. The legislation they put in place means it can't be held later than that - they don't get a reset on the timer due to changing leader.

That's still far too fucking long though.

Wouldn't they still be forced to hold an election if they lose a confidence vote?

Yes, but they can only lose one if enough Tory MPs vote against their own interests (staying in power). There MIGHT be enough Tory MPs with a moral conscience existing in alternate dimensions, I suppose, but there certainly fucking aren't in this one.

By law, this head of lettuce is the new PM. This tradition dates back to King Æthelred the Unready.

    Sub-4 Scaramuccis!
edit: Scaramucci says it’s 4.1. 44 days, right? Whereas 4.1 would be 47.1 days, right?

The next general would be in 2024, unless 2/3 of parliament consents to an earlier one. If public pressure mounts, enough Tory MPs may consent after this shitshow. Unlikely but plausible.

I was gonna say -- the fate of Truss should give pause to any Republican who still thinks Reaganomics is a solution to anything in 2022.

Just to give a foretaste of the next stage of the shitshow.

Boris Johnson is under investigation for lying to the House of Commons (among other things) and a verdict is expected before Christmas. There's a distinct possibility that he will be kicked out.

If he's appointed PM again next week, just imagine the utter mayhem that would result in that scenario.

You mean the Tories won't just declare "it's a witch hunt" and swear their undying allegiance to their recently convicted Dear Leader?
