    Good for him.

I'm curious if these guys were radicalized by exposure to someone here or if they decided to do this of their own accord.

Law enforcement has an old man in custody wearing what they suspect to be a suicide bomber vest. They're currently undressing him with 4 robots. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I'm dead serious.

Of the two probable motives for these attacks, the "right wing extremist" theory is pretty unlikely for two immigrant kids who grew up in notably left wing "extremist" Bwostin.

I don't think we can rule anything out. Disaffected youth can be brainwashed by any number of doctrines. Hopefully the other brother will be caught alive so that the FBI can construct a more complete profile and determine whether there is more to it than two dickheads with backpacks.

Has this already been posted? This is apparently Djohar Tsarnaev's profile on VK, which is kind of like Facebook for Russian speakers.

Don't know if anyone's seen this yet but there's footage from a distance of the gunfight at the convenience store:

    Link.

    Sounds like quite the battle.

Well, yeah, you're right. Until we have concrete facts, all we can do is speculate regarding probabilities. That's where the probabilities lead me, though. Growing up immersed in a notably liberal culture doesn't seem like a scenario that, to my mind, would lead to right-wing extremism. That's not to say it should be entirely ruled out -- I'm just saying it seems very improbable.

I dunno, it takes a special kind of stupid, and a special kind of twitchy in combination to fall for radical enough bullshit to blow up women and kids.

    I was a disaffected youth, a disaffected twenty-something, fuck, I'm still disaffected.
    I'll always be disaffected.
I'll be tossed into my coffin disaffected.

Not once did it ever pop into my head "hey, y'know what will really get my disgust with the system, and all the lying snake oil salesmen that pull the levers of our culture across? Killing some kids with a bomb. People are really impressed by that. History shows it. Nothing gets you folk-hero status like dead children. And it gets the ladies moist too. Just lots and lots of dead kids. They can't get enough of it".

    Never did.
Okay, just now in skit mode, but outside of that, not so much.

IIRC, what is coming down information wise, they came to the U.S. 10 years ago.

That means the 26 year old would've been 16 years old when he came to the U.S.

You might not know it CS, but many sixteen year olds have done a lot of "growing up" by then.

Hell, most 16 year olds can join the military with parental consent or have been able to.

So this bull about them being "American raised" is about as serious as you insisting they were "probably right wing anti tax zealots".

I can give you some more background then. While certainly a minority, there are some tea party types around Boston. Probably quite a few more of them than jihadists, so if we are going with strictly local influences, we'd have to rule out islamofascism. Or, we could rule nothing out for now.

Chechen nationals are predominantly Muslim. Unless someone can translate that text, we really can't say anything more about the variety or intensity of his belief.

Well, I tend to think the evidence is pointing to radical Islam as the reason, but it certainly isn't explicit yet as the motivation.

Stranger things have happened - RFK was assassinated by a Palestinian oppsoed to US support of Israel.

    Sirhan Sirhan was Christian.

Well, like I said, I'm inclined to rule nothing out for now. Right now speculation is all there is, and as much as any one of us is bound to be wrong, it's also possible that we'll all be wrong and they might have been gacked out on bath salts and doing it to bring about the zombie apocalypse.

But from other things that are coming to light, such as the predominant focus of subject matter on their social media accounts, these were home-grown Jihadists.

I believe they are Soviet sleeper agents accidentally activated long after the program was shut down.

These could be the equivalent of Harris and Klebold, except they're Muslims.
IOW, they just want to see the world burn, and go out in a blaze of glory. Except that they're Muslim.

Well, he's certainly responsible for continuing the abuses of his predecessors in Chechnya.

    And there have been consequences.

The dad believes the kids to be innocent and has begged for the boy to give himself up to authorities.

He then went on to add if the younger son is killed 'there will be hell to pay.'

    Bright guy.

This seems the most likely. There is little in their background to indicate that they've come under the influence of any specific movement or group. That they are Moslem doesn't really tell us anything.

It's clear you wanted it to be right wing extremists. You were practically salivating at the thought of it. At least own up to it you pussy.

The older brother apparently didn't come to the US until he was 20.

At least according to CNN, so take that with a shaker of salt.

In Wordin's defense, he wasn't the only person here saying it might be domestic. Quite a few people did, including me:

That said, Wordin was the only person who seemed to be frantically hoping that it turned out to be right-wingers.

I now await his spittle-spewing, meaningless "neg" rep, denying what was obvious even to other liberals on the board.

I've read that the mother of these two men, who lived at the same address, was 'arrested and charged with larceny over $250 (women's clothing valued at $1,624), and two counts of malicious/wanton damage/defacement to property.' last year and it appears to be true:-

yeah-the only reason behind hoping it was domestic wass to head off the inevitable racially based assaults that Islamic responsibility would have brought about.

Still, seriously praying that it does jsut turn out that these two were random whackaloons.

I'll tell you one thing, I bet the gun owners of Boston are really damn happy that they have a gun in their home right now.

Wow, at a Lord and Taylor.

Which is also where they got the video footage of the bomb.

I wonder if this could be revenge against L&T. Seems unlikely, but that's a weird connection.
