Source I will praise the admin when it does accomplish something of merit, as it has in this case. I still believe in "fair trade", but this is at least the start of something good. It will not only benefit US companies, it will also help the Chinese in the long run, since many of these subsidies are destroying the country through overproduction and lack of quality controls.
Fair trade is a free market, with no tarriffs or subsidies, where wage and labor practices are enforced at the consumer level by the choice of product to purchase. It is not a euphemism for 2nd/3rd world social engineering or an opportunity to distort conditions in a way that is favorable to your own domestic industries and work force.
Did anyone see that youtbue question during the republican debate last night, where the mom asked what they are going to do to prevent dangerous Chinese-manufactured toys from getting into consumers houses, and get US-manufactured toys back? It's pretty fuckin' simple, don't buy the ones that say "Made in China"!
