I mean, it wasn't really clear what you were alleging, but thank you for clarifying. So the problem is that Amaris allegedly went back and edited posts you replied to? But whatever you quoted from her original post is still in your post, not the edited content?

Edit to add: I agree that when admins are editing their own posts not in any official board capacity, it should be tagged as edited as with any normal user. But I'm just confused on what you're mad at here: the fact that she edited her post and it didn't show up as edited?

The thing is, we can't do anything about that. @Order2Chaos disabled the ability to clear the edit tag, which is good, but we, as admins, still get the same window where there's no edit tag, just like regular users do. You can see edits in my posts where the tag is there. So I do get them, somewhere around the 5 minute mark.

I'm satisfied that it was looked into. If everyone can edit a post within 5 minutes with no edit marker that's fine. But it's problematic if you can make massive changes to a post and no one can tell afterwards. Whether the intent is ill or not, that makes conversation very difficult, because people are having two separate conversations. And if certain posters have the ability to do so without anyone else knowing it that's problematic. If you limit it to within 5 mins for everyone that is fine. And I don't have a problem with after 5 mins, as long as it says it was edited.

I also just tested editing one of my old posts - it told me I couldn't edit anything older then 30 mins. That's a very good policy and IMO a positive change.

If you were unclear it probably would have been better to ask then to type out your assumptions as if they were fact. But sure.

That's how I identified that this happened past the 5 min mark. But I don't do full quotes on every single post, nor does anyone else. That would give a user the ability to totally change the context of the conversation after it happened.

Yes, the integrity of the conversation is important. If she responds with something like 'Fuck you, you jackass.' And I respond to that, then find out that she went back and edited an additional 3 paragraph philosophical treatise, then it totally changes the nature of the conversation. If she can do it without anyone knowing she did it that comes in and reads it after it's just outright gaslighting.

Everybody's ability to edit posts is gone, after (I believe) a 30-minute window. See the posts above this one.

Which post were you trying to edit? :chris:

Nice to see you people finally admitting this truth years later. I have to say I feel vindicated.

Yes, the vindication of acknowledging how forum software has worked for 30 years, where the documentation is openly available on the internet, and where no one here has ever denied being able to edit posts. You're a regular Bob Woodward.

I am a little confused here because I just tested and I can edit a post that was years old, and I finally see the edited tag.

Please do not change this as it might effect compilation threads where the OP needs to be edited. I know some people are complaining, but please do not let such paranoia harm things for the rest of us. Just my input on not letting some people ruin it for the rest of us.

No, you alleged that posts were being edited/deleted and being lied about.

Yet you're still to show a single example.

    1. That doesn't contradict Dinner misrepresenting what people are saying. However his misrepresentation or (to give him the benefit of the doubt) misunderstanding of what people actually mean does do a lot to discredit his claims of remembering things that cannot now be found.

A deleted post still shows up on the forum, just seen only by mods and admins rather than everyone. It is a one line placeholder of the deleted post, and clicking on it will show the deleted post content to the mod or admin.
If that is somehow gone around, database logs would record a deleted thread, and database logs can't be deleted without deleting the entire logfile, which would also be logged and noted, and a massive logfile like that being deleted would raise big red flags, as only a few admins have that ability.

Late to the party, but I figured that would be useful if someone were, say, posting private information or having public drunken meltdowns as Enlisted Person once had about his childhood.

I think that's always been the case. I seem to recall a few occasions over the years where I had to ask a mod to fix a typo in a thread title. Same with typos in polls, can't edit those (and for good reason).
