Can an administrator edit comments without the comment saying that it was edited?

    Sure looks like it. http://wordforge.net/index.php?posts/3481501/

Anyone can edit an old post, but if it can be done via stealth that's highly problematic, especially when the admin in question often says things like 'where did I say that.' Sure seems like gaslighting.

But hey, an admin is currently trolling me with a picture that I objected to and left the board, and as an administrator I can't block them. And of course that extends outside the Red Room. I let it go for 3 months now, but in consideration with bad behavior by other admins elsewhere I'm not going to any more.

Can you pretty please with sugar on it unfuck yourselves? That would be grand. :D

Yes, admins can edit a post without it saying the post was edited to the user. Admins and mods can see who edited what, when, and how many times.

    Yes, those pesky users.

We shouldn't have to have a mod in our back pocket to see if someone is gaslighting us about what was or wasn't said.

What pesky users? That's the design of the board software. None of us set it that way. If @Order2Chaos knows a way to set it so the edit tag always displays, that would be fine with me.

I'm honestly not sure what the point of that function is.

I'm sure it has some kind of purpose, but I don't know what it is either. Seriously, though, in the user group permissions, there is the option to edit, and to change how long a post can be edited before the window closes. There is no option, that I saw, to turn any kind of "edited by" system on or off.

I meant to say the Clear Last Edit Information function.

Mods and admins need unlimited editing capability to remove unwanted content, but I don't see the point in being able to hide the work.

Me, neither, because Mods and Admins can still see it, and users won't have seen it in the first place. I mean, there's a big History button right there in the posting options, so it's immediately clear the post was edited, and checking what was edited is just as easy.

Well, it's OK because our Admins are held to the highest ethical standards and won't ever troll or malign users on the boa....

LOL. Sorry, I tried but I couldn't finish it with a straight face. :D

Speaking of which, anyone talk to Tuckerfan? He wants a go at me fine, he wants to troll me across the entire board without me being able to block him it's just a juvenile move. And to my understanding, not allowed.

Again, I gave him weeks to straighten out in case it was just momentary bad judgment.

Or am I incorrect that trolling outside the Red Room is allowed now? Hard to know in the wild, wacky Wordforge.

Until you brought up the history, I didn't remember that was the image in question. And, all these years later, I still don't have a problem with it.

Well, the first part is irrelevant - it's been brought to your attention.

And all these years later, what does that image mean to anyone other than trolling me personally?

I don't believe you don't understand this is a trolling attempt. You aren't that obtuse, even if it is inconvenient that it's yet again one of the Admins that's doing the trolling.

BTW, that specifically was why I left the board the first time. I didn't want my kid who was with me routinely when I was online seeing the image - but Anna changing it to her profile pic while she was on staff made me realize that you guys were fine with trolling, as long as it was one of you doing it. So it definitely wasn't going to change.

It seems to me that even if admins can hide their edit activity, they shouldn't.

There is also, I believe, a window during which all members can edit their own posts without an edited tag showing up. I'm not sure what triggers the edited tag appearing -- whether it's a specified amount of time, or if it's triggered by somebody having responded/reacted to the post, or what.

    (Editing this post to test.)

    (Editing again.)

On the above post, I edited it, and no tag showed up, but I didn't take any action to make it that way. Going to try to use this post to see if I can figure out what triggers the tag being added.

    Hello, this is an edit.

Steve checked in the other thread. It appears to be a 5 minute window that anyone can edit their comments without the edit tag showing.

Honestly, that isn't great in of itself, but I understand the reasoning.

AFAIC the Clear Last Edit option can go away. I just don't know if the board software allows for it.

I am just wondering where I would see this tag if I edited my own post because I have never seen it. I assume the only time a tag would be left for the public to view would be if a mod had to edit someone else's post.

No, it’s on the bottom of the post if you edit it more than a few minutes after making it. If you edit it within that window, it doesn’t show up.

Based on past experience, it seems to be a time limit where a non-admin user can edit their post without the edit tags showing up. Also, I have seen it happen where I edit a post, and then someone quotes my post and it includes the edited content. But they aren't aware of the edit because they opened my post before I could edit it, and they haven't since hit refresh.

So that sounds like what happened with Amaris and Demiurge.
    1. Amaris made a post.
    2. Demiurge opened the post.
    3. Amaris made a quick edit to the post.
    4. Demiurge quoted the post, which included the edit.
    5. Demiurge thinks there is a conspiracy to edit his posts (??)

This is what happened, yes. Once someone replies and I see that reply, I don't edit my post, I just make a new post in response.

No. Clearly not what I said.

I responded to an Amaris post after 6 mins, this being beyond the edit time out. My post did not include Amaris edit in the quote.

I never stated there was an edit to my post, you are conjuring that out of thin air.

I then went back and reviewed some of the old posts that we had talked about a year back which clearly were not exactly the same as what I responded to.

None of Amaris posts I could find ever showed that they had been edited, even when a nasty one or two line insult was then turned into a flowery two or three paragraph response. For most people, myself included, that would normally take more than a few minutes to compose, and the time out is only 5 mins.

I questioned whether Amaris had the ability to edit posts without showing the edit. And it turns out, that yes, she does.

And other admins here quickly understood the implication of that. There's no reason an admin needs to be able to edit things without it being noted that they edited it.

Especially in a forum where some admins get down and dirty. As I recall what set me off with Amaris is when she called me a 'spineless, vapid fuck.'

Though at least that trolling was just in the Red Room.
