Hopefully @Elwood can tell me it has changed but it used to be the case in Alabama that a man could marry a girl under the age of sixteen w/parental permission, but couldn’t have sex with said child until they were 16 and couldn’t take pictures of them having sex until the child was 18 (would be child pornography).

I did find a study that discovered a correlation between inadequate fruit and vegetable intake and suicide attempts, though.

Just a reminder, in the OP of this thread I likened puberty blockers to age of consent laws for sexual conduct and am very much against both and I'm not a Republican and don't support lowering age of consent laws so your meme doesn't apply to me. Both are wrong.

The point is kids and teenagers in particular could commit suicide for a whole host of reasons, it's kind of their thing. The world doesn't stop just because a teenager is suicidal. If you want to talk about de-escalation then wouldn't holding off on puberty blockers and maybe seeing if your kid is just going through a phase or whatever instead going gung ho transgender be a form of de-escalation?

According to the notes, the law was amended in 2003. I can't find an on-line copy of the Code of 1940. The closest physical copy to me is at the Birmingham Public Library or Birmingham Southern School of Law Library. It's not important enough to find out what the 1940 Code said. Section 30-1-5 says that if the person contracting marriage is 16 or greater but under 18, parental consent must be obtained and a bond of $200 is required.

The problem I have with what joe does here is he goes way out of his lane to platform this woman on an issue that is important and he has not done his research on. He is being obtuse in pretending he does not recognize he is still coming with a position of expert and does not make any mention that he has stepped way out of his expertise. I will give joe he is an expert and studied in MMA issues. That includes the issues of trans people participating in MMA. He does not stop there and say he is not well informed on the rest of trans issues and that is misleading.

A responsible person in his place would have either studied up, or brought in another expert to ask questions. he did neither, and he never reminded the audience he did not study much outside of the specifics for his area of expertise. That is a very thin lane of expertise. Just because a person wrote a book does not mean they properly studied and wrote about anything. The problem with joe is he does not state he does not have expertise in this area and cannot ask her decent questions because he does not understand. In other situations he has ripped apart people like Dave Rubin when dave said construction regulations do not matter. In that case Joe understood there are regulations in place for a reason, and licensing keeps out people who would build dangerously or poorly. Joe clearly does not go that far in understanding the realm of knowledge in the medical field about transgender psychology and the practices of diagnosing and dealing with them. He also does not understand how the concept of gender is formed. He should be honest and say he does not know if the author is full of shit or not.

Gender is huge in our identities. She makes a claim that there are two distinct genders and that a scale of gender does not exist. That is just so completely not true and clearly wrong you could write a whole book explaining that shit to her. There is something in us that identifies with either gender, and even that is not constant as some people identify as non-gendered or androgen. She claims there is no social gender construct, but there is clearly a range of gendered activities from really masculine to really feminine. There are some things that both genders do. The woman is so completely wrong and joe never challenges anything she says like he would do with a Dave Rubin who was clearly wrong.

This clip is joe being the dumbass. This journalist is being asked a question that she obviously does not know, and clearly cannot explain. That is her ignorance, but she is also really stupid. There is a clear answer. Joe has completely flipped the history of medicine. In the past transgenderism was not treated with respect. It was a disease or a mental dysfunction. It was misdiagnosed, and it was considered wrong to let most people identify themselves. Society determined their gender identification in a very fascist way. Jope is pretending that now doctors are forced to say everyone who says they are trans is trans and that simply is OMG wrong. If this journalist did any real research she would know that this works out great in a huge number of cases with a very small minority being incorrect. A medical doctor would know that because they see the studies and ithe medical field has come to that conclusion over a huge amount of denial. This did not just pop into existence and people started prescribing hormones to block puberty. They had to fight the medical community to get there. The medical community had to be pushed to this diagnosis with the facts, and joe says the medical community is being forced to push hormone therapy on children is just wrong.

I do not even know how someone coult think that the people who are objecting to HRT are being oppressed as they have always been oppressing those who wanted it. You don't get this by accident or because someone else forces it on you. you have to want it and tell people you want it. You have to jump through hoops to get it. You have to convince everyone else you need it. The fact that reality is not brought up at all is manipulative, deceptive, and plain out lying. Joe is not that stupid. I would not consider joe that stupid to have missed that so he is deliberately omitting it and presenting a different narrative.

I will agree with you that there are people like that in dickanal's world, but I am going to have to also say you post evidence as to why they would be that way. Joe is clearly out of his lane and pretending to be an expert in an area he is mostly ignorant about and has a bias that relates to his toxic masculinity being threatened.
