This is a real blow. :(

Hard to believe. I had noticed she hadn't posted in a while, but I never expected something like this.

We disagreed on some issues, but we agreed on a lot more than we disagreed on, and I respected her very much.

Farewell, my fellow boomer wordsmith! You will be sorely missed. :salute:

Oh! Holy shit! I was looking for her Star Trek 4 DVD clip, and here's a whole podcast she did last year, and she never even mentioned it!

Someone on TBBS reminded me that she was the curator of a long going thread titled "Every Man's Death Diminishes Me" where she wrote down the names of every service member killed in Afghanistan and Iraq

I remember how it REALLY used to piss off some right wing posters and they'd constantly get in her face about it, even though she was simply honoring the dead (although I'm sure she liked it a little bit that it pissed off the right people)

Even when she was being kind and sincere she could manage to get people's knickers in a twist, that's just masterful trollery. Respect

Yeah he just sort of vanished, wonder what he's up to?

If people thought Garamet and I were bad, those two were just all over each other constantly, in every thread

When I was modding TNZ I'd log on in the late morning and there would be all these PM's from both of them saying "look at what Garamet/Kirk1Adm has done now!!!!"

Everyone got so sick of them quarrelling in every thread that we even tried to separate TNZ into two, The Think Tank and The Briar Patch with the assumption that they'd take their quarrelling to the Briar Patch and the Think Tank would be for people who wanted to have civil discussions

    That sure failed miserably

Shit. Not really the news I needed today. Or ever, really. A couple of weeks ago, I happened to remember that my favorite TOS episode was The Enterprise Incident and DM’d her to let her know. That seemed to make her very happy.

    Damn...

This just hit hard. I'll admit it, I've got tears running right now.

I can remember buying and reading some of the Trek books she wrote when I was younger. I enjoyed them, on particular Strangers from the Sky. She seemed surprised that I was able to remember specific details of the plot even thought it had been nearly 30 years since I read the book, and also mentioned to her to her that I remember reading some of her books, I wish I had thanked for writing then and giving me the opportunity to experience a bit more of Trek.

I always liked what she had to say, even if I didn't always agree with her. And like others have mentioned, she reached out to me a few times, either to ask me a bit more about something that I posted. And in at least one other, to see if I was okay.

I'm glad I got to know her, even if I never met her personally. And in glad I got to know a little bit about her on here. I also noticed she hadn't posted in a while, and while I wasn't concerned, I did notice it. When she posted that she was going to get the Moderna vaccine, I was happy for her. She took so many precautions, I only hope she didn't contract it, because that means she would have gotten it through the carelessness of another, and that would really bother me.

God speed Margaret (Garamet), and hope that where ever you are, you're with Jack. And thank you for letting us get to know you.

I remember the TNZ split. I wonder if you can access that stuff on the Internet archive.

Ironically, TNZ seems to have become what everyone wanted it to be back in the mid-oughts. Boring and without any good trolling. Last time I was in there, everyone got along. People cared about each other's feelings. Kind of nauseating.

Garamet was one of a kind, though. I always wanted to ask her if she knew she was being deliberately obtuse sometimes for the lulz. I never blamed her for it. Some people take the Internet way too seriously sometimes (myself included).

Wonder if any TNZers will show up to pay their respects. Haven't seen them around here in a while.

I didn't know of any (not that we were that close).
I had a DM exchange with her on Mar 10 after I noticed she hadn't posted in a while. She said she had been distracted by a new job. No mention of any other issues. :(

She posted that she had to cancel her vaccination due to some stress, and pepto would help, about a week or two from her last post. But could have nothing to do with her passing.

My dad (who died years ago) loved Strangers in the Sky. I wish I'd told garamet that.

It's a good reminder to put a "notify antiquated social media of your death" clause in your will.

    This is terrible news. :(

Initially she was one of the posters here who I disliked the most, but even though we disagreed on many things, she eventually became one of my favorite people. Probably my most favorite.

I think aside from her family, the only info is that it was natural causes. I don't think it really matters, And honestly, I feel it's better that it's left at natural causes. Don't want to think or find out she suffered in any way.
