Chad has 12 fucking threads on this shit on the front page. TWELVE. At a minimum, we should compromise and box up all the ones with less than five posts to unclutter the fucking board. This is the type of shit y'all were trying to avoid with getting rid of rep.
Don't worry, I'm sure people will stop killing people with guns soon and then I'll have no more new threads to post.
You know, I was very much in the "ignore him" camp, but this is getting to be Starguard level of bullshit threads.
The thing is, Chad's made his point. His single, solitary point. A single, solitary point gets a single, solitary thread, don't you think? He's had the opportunity to find something interesting, something unique, to discuss about each shooting. He's had the opportunity every time he posts one of the threads. I think at least half the time he's failed to post any commentary at all. I even called him out in one thread, giving him a chance to put up or shut up, and he failed to offer anything substantial. [action=NAHTMMM]waits for people to stop laughing at the thought of him calling anyone out . . .[/action] If there are debate-worthy, illuminating, or interesting points about a case, it can merit its own thread. Otherwise, if it's just a generic shooting (and I agree with Chad insofar as it's sad that "generic shooting" is a legitimate phrase to use in our society today) that nobody has anything much to say about, it can get added to a box thread dedicated to listing cases of gun violence as they are reported. Because at this point, I'm ready to call this legitimately unnecessary clutter, at which point I won't complain if the staff does a box thread. At least, I think that's a reasonable set of criteria.
I think that's fair to request that I at least include commentary on each of these cases. However, most of them are just preliminary reports of "x found dead y-city, police on the search for suspect". I try and update those threads when more information pops up, for example if police identify a suspect or motivation for the shooting.
No BOX threads. Though I wouldn't mind someone breaking every bone in Chad's arms. And his legs. Oh hell........ Just shoot the bastard. His last thread can be "Chad gunned down by Wordforger....." Then we can have a memorial thread and watch as people say, "I won't weep for Chad the poster. I'm glad the poster but not the person is gone."
What's funny is you think you're going to keep this up forever because it's the Red Room and when you get smacked down you're going to cry foul. Except no one will be in your corner because you're pissing off everyone. I say no to box threads but I fully support the owner of the board locking your account at this point. It's one thing to make it "rain" to make a point on some subject but another to try and flood the place. You've made your point. Time to move on. Let other threads be seen.
I don't intend to. It's a pretty sad subject to look into day after day. If the staff tells me to stop, I will stop. If they give me a warning, I will accept it. If they lock my account, that would be unwarranted considering they've already taken the position of allowing me to continue. At this point though, I do not believe I am breaking any rules. I see plenty of other threads.
1. No flaming and/or trolling outside The Red Room. However, even the Red Room is moderated, although with a light touch. But in the end, determining whether or not something violates this rule is strictly up to the common sense of the staff. So yes it is possible to be flaming and trolling in the Red Room. You just have to work really hard at it.
Yes, but the main beef people seem to have with my threads is that they consider them spam, not trolling/flaming. I don't see them as spam, considering each thread is about a different topic.
#1 You're trolling gun owners on this board. No one except you and a couple others would believe what you just said about each thread being a different topic. The names and places and times are different but each thread is about the same thing. #2 It is spam because it is the same subject: someone getting shot and you want to show how America is gun crazy.
Chad, have you thought about placing them all in the same thread? Sometimes that is more dramatic than reading them all in separate threads.
This is the same "skirt around the rules" shit that Faceman used to be infamous for. I didn't buy into it eight years ago, and I don't now. We've already set a precedent on dealing with this with Starguard spamming the shit out the board, and you've manage to run off at least two people because of your bullshit.
That's your opinion, I guess. Starguard's thread seemed to consist of "Thread Title + I saw it on CNN" i.e. they were completely devoid of content. Mine have content and sources. And who ran off because of the gun threads?
Gun owners' determination to keep guns out of the hands of the violent and mentally unstable? This argument sounds so familiar. I think it had something to do with Americans being killed in some war of foreign adventure that a lot of WFers were all excited about, and didn't want their dreams of glory dimmed by any unpleasantness. Of course, there's only one poster here now who'll admit he was for the Iraq Adventure; everyone else seems to have forgotten. Because it's not as if there aren't data all over the Interwebz showing just that. Clearly threads on a message board are such a threat to the Second Amendment that the only solution is to silence the perpetrator - according to you, by any means necessary.
That is correct. And I'm neither trolling nor flaming, unless any and every observation that runs contrary to someone else's is defined as trolling. If I were thin-skinned enough to believe that, I'd be accusing some here of trolling Chad by comparing "the same stupid Starguard thread about Cleopatra repeated with almost Baba-like frequency" to "reportage about Real Life people being actually dead as a result of gunshot wounds." But I'm not doing that. What I am doing is recommending that, like the war-dead memorials, Chad's future posts on the domestic war dead be limited to a single Green Room thread so they can be safely ignored by anyone who's offended by them. ETA: If Chad's sole intention were to troll Gunforge, he's succeeded, as witness your threats in Post #41 and the fact that the Red Room will now start to fill up with "retaliation" threads. ("Oh, look! Here's an instance where a Good Guy killed a Bad Guy! And another and another and another! Obsessed with guns? Who, us?")
Alright. Chad...please stop it. It's now gotten to the point where a large amount of the membership is aggravated on both sides of the issue and people are beginning to avoid WF because of your spamming. We try to be as liberal as possible so people are free to post what they want, but when it starts affecting the ability of folks to enjoy the board, it's going too far. Either stop posting about this altogether for awhile, or make a single Gun Violence thread and update it as much as you want. Yes, it can stay in the Red Room as that is the most salient place for it. If you continue what you have been unabated, you will lose your ability to post threads at all. I'd much rather not do such a thing, but the level of disruption...to the point of driving people away...makes it an unfortunate necessity.
