Assumes it has happened in the past. Not to my knowledge. Just basing my statement on how I know I'd react, plus the reactions of those who mirrored my sentiments. The issue was the format, methods, and impact to the site, not the content of the posts.

And BTW, you oft-repeated solution of "just post your own threads on other topics" rings incredibly hollow, given that Chad was essentially just copying & pasting headlines and links to stories, and offering neither insight nor comment, at an impressive rate. Unless you expect others to do likewise--which would descend this board into the vapid depths best saved for the likes Trek BBS and Troll Kingdom--it's not a solution.

Odd, I don't even remember that. Shows you what's important to some people and what isn't.

Why are you so threatened by words on a screen? Or, to put it another way, why is it okay for you and Nautica to tell people to STFU, but not for us to respond to your "advice"?

People like rules and stricture when they serve only to silence a dissenting view.

Of course it's spam. At least half of all Red Room threads are spam. But unlike most spam, Chad's was designed to make an actual debating point. People should either engage him on the point or ignore it so the threads drop off the front page. It's easy to render spam harmless. But for some reason, this particular spam resulted in helpdesk complaints and new TrekBBS style rules. Yeah, that's a win for us all

I was offering commentary on most of them. Some of them, though, I didn't have enough information to provide commentary because it was nothing more than "unidentified male dead in City-X, suspect at large, call this number if you have any information." Those I was updating with more information and my own commentary if/when it became available. And nearly every single one of my threads had replies from others, one even hit two pages.

Spam like this has always resulted in people running to the Helpdesk and whining.

And there are no new rules.

The Red Room is not a no rule room and if you push hard enough you will be "moderated".

And Chad wasn't stopping. He kept going. Even so far that he was upsetting people on his side of the argument.

That's what I found funniest about the whole thing. Instead of asking me to stop, everyone decided to go crying to the staff about it, as if we were at TrekBBS.

I don't see how Chad's point is any less valid when all the links are confined to one thread.

Unless the only point that mattered was irritating people and shoving a point of view in everyone's face to the detriment of the forum.

I was more hoping for a weekly thread, would that be at all acceptable? If not, I'd certainly be willing to limit it to a single yearly thread. I've been busier this week than I was last week when I was posting multiple threads. Maybe I'll start one later tonight or tomorrow.

There is a precedent. Right after Amy Winehouse died, I started one forum-related thread on her in each forum and got a warning for it.

One weekly should be fine. Anyone stupid enough to whine about that deserves to be run out of here.
