That is because it is a false flag video edited to make it seem like there was a shooting when there wasn't because Obama. Or that is what alex jones will claim.

god bless Texas lawmakers and this church for being proactive enough to comprehend reality (bad guys can get guns pretty damned easily) and taking appropriate actions. A retired cop as armed security is a very smart play, as demonstrated on Sunday. In a perfect world nobody can get their hands on a gun and nobody would have died - obviously this church exists in an imperfect world so the situation was handled with extreme speed & efficiency.

In other words, a good guy with a gun.

Not to show any generalization or bigotry toward large groups of people or anything.

Five more armed citizens came forward during the shooting. You can see them running toward the shooter after he went down, with no way of knowing if he was still dangerous.

Eh...a lot of news outlets are walking that back because there's no confirmation of it.

His county commissioner campaign Facebook page references being a reserve deputy sheriff as well as thirty years' worth of DoD security clearances (posted the day before the shooting). So he likely had government law enforcement training, just not FBI.

Yeah, we shouldn't do anything to perhaps try to get as close as we can to perfect so lets just give everyone guns and this way hopefully we will have a quentin tarantino ending.

    Thanks.

I watched the video of the shooting last night and the way he drew his sidearm and held it immediately told me he had some sort of law enforcement training.

well at least this one time anyway! :bergman: Speaking of shotguns when I went through the gate of a Navy base on Christmas morning one of the guards had a 12 gauge pump! My son-in-law said that's the Navy "go to" high octane small arms weapon on ships.

I think we can safely assume that no member of Gunforge will argue that a firearm in the hands of someone untrained in it's use during a shooting will ever end well.

Case in point, the first guy that got shot. What the fuck was he doing? :wtf:

Our friend Frontline, who is a firearms instructor, did an analysis on his FB page. He thinks the first guy was a) slow because he was caught unawares, and couldn't get his mind in gear at what was happening, and/or b) thinking he could de-escalate by talking to the guy while drawing.

It's easy to Monday Morning Quarterback this but the first guy who was shot shouldn't haven't even bothered trying to draw his weapon.

You can not out draw a gun already pointed at you.

Especially when your gun is in the small of your back under a jacket and shirt. In fact him trying to draw his gun may have caused the shooter to shoot him with the shotgun. I'm not saying the shooter wouldn't have shot him just that the shooter realized the 1st victim was attempting to draw his weapon and therefore shot him first before shooting the 2nd victim.

So what do I do in that situation?

Bum rush the guy as soon as you see the shotgun. The distance was less than 10 feet. You could be on the shooter before he can react. When you watch the video you see the gunman talk to the second victim first and the first victim sees the shotgun being raised and starts to stand to draw his gun. At that moment the shotgun is pointing at the general direction of the second victim. It's as the first victim starts drawing that the shooter backs up a couple feet and turns towards the first victim and shoots him. The shooter than shoots the second victim before he himself is shot by the security guard.

Yes rushing someone with a gun is dangerous. You still may get shot. Someone else may get shot. However at that point in that situation knowing about previous mass shootings you have to realize that the shooter is not there to rob the place. He's there to kill multiple people.

And before anyone says that old cliche about shotguns never missing. They can and do miss if not aimed properly. Especially at close range before the buckshot has a chance to really expand outwards.

I feel bad for both victims and maybe it's not fair to say what the victim should have done but if you're close to a guy with a gun and you've got no way to easily escape and no way to get your gun out quickly enough the best thing to do is rush the guy with the gun. He can only shoot one of you at a time. "Rush the gun, run from the knife."

My whole "what the fuck" about the guy was how slow and nonchalant he was. In the classes I've had, we had to be able to draw from concealment and fire two aimed shots in under 2 seconds. That guy was on like 5 mississippi's and never even aimed his gun. :wtf:

Everybody and their brother has seen the video. I made a decision years ago to no longer watch videos like this. There's something about how my brain is wired. If I read a transcript, that's okay. It's a learning experience. Watching it, somehow, is different and I've seen enough people die in my lifetime. I know the sounds, smells, and faces all to well. Thanks.

That said, I was prepared to Monday Morning Quarterback the good guy for not shooting until slide lock until I realized his one shot was a head shot. Okay, I'll be quiet in the corner now.

What happens to the slide of a semi-automatic handgun when it fires the last round from a magazine?

The slide locks back. What's the relevance here? The good guy only fired once, and the bad guy was firing for a third time precisely at the same time he got shot.

it stays back. But I still don't get what you are saying with "not shooting until slide lock". Did you mean to say not stopping shooting until the last round as in firing all the rounds in the magazine?
