OMG! White cis males will have to mix with industry at any one of the other literally hundreds of other booths or panels, without any special support! And with straight white males in such short supply in the industry, too!

There are no other mixers for the industry people where industry people can meet and greet each other and exchange their business cards and resumes. These mixers aren't panels, booths, or meetings for fans. This is for people in the industry.

In fact it's even discrimination against the minorities.

Will a straight black woman or male be allowed in the LGBT mixer? Will a white gay man be allowed in the People of Color mixer?

The reality is that in those three mixers no white straight male is allowed. Even if the straight white male has zero problem with POC, LGBT, or women.

If there was a mixer for white straight men only you'd rightly call foul on that.

Ignoring the political crap, Marvel tried an experiment where instead of hiring comic book writers, they created characters like America Chavez, for example, a Latina lesbian, and then hired a Latina lesbian to write the stories in what I'm guessing as an attempt to write a more authentic character. The problem is that the writer sucks either at writing in the format of comic books, or has no writing experience at all. It's how you end up with a hulk comic where the hulk doesn't smash anything.

The current America series does indeed suck, which is a shame, because the character was excellent in the two previous series she appeared in. (And yes, she was already both Latina and lesbian in those.)

IMO, they should have noticed their mistake somewhere around that part of the pitch that must have read,

"America Chavez is one of the AAA-level superheroes in the Marvel Universe; she can literally kick holes into the fabric of reality and has arrived in our world from what used to be a realm of Gods. We have established that she is technically superior to Vision, Ultron, and Thanos. In her last adventure, she saved the Young Avengers by facing down a combined evil of one ancient deity controlling all the minds of all adult humans and that was at the same time eating the very essence of reality, and the schemes of evil old Loki himself.

As her next challenge, we are sending her to college, where she will first struggle, but then quickly manage, to make friends."

There is nothing wrong with diversity. Diversity is a good thing.

But you can't tell me that barring one group of people from these meetups because they are straight, white, and male is making things more diverse.
