The face palm is because I cannot believe we have to explain that fucking shit to the right, just to be clear.

And when kids go home and ask their parents, the non-racists parents will explain skin color, and the racist parents will go "because she was a fucking bitch, that's why!!" and history can be segregated into fuzzy little clouds of opinion, and be meaningless.
    :brood:

But hey!! Republican politicians can hold on to power for one last generation, so fuck everything else! :techman:

That is a problem, but there is the reality that is a pretty sad last grasp at racism. Yes, it is obvious and troublesome, but if they think that is going to bring us back to the good old days of racist white supremacy they have a long way to go.

We have a lot of work to do, but they are not putting that genie back in the bottle.

Fun fact: Rosa worked for the NAACP and her refusal to give up her seat was a pre-planned operation. They'd decided that the time was right to fight being forced to move to the back of the bus, and Rosa's personal life was clean enough (a previous woman who'd been told to give up her seat was an unmarried, pregnant sixteen-year-old, and they didn't think that she'd be able to garner enough sympathy) that they knew the press wouldn't be able to fling poo against her if she got arrested for refusing to give up her seat. So, when she got arrested (and the bus driver begged her not to force him to have her arrested), her one phone call didn't merely get her bailed out, but it also put into motion the bus boycott that led to the end of the practice.

It wasn't merely that her feet just happened to be tired one day, it was that the oppressed people of color had decided that they'd had enough of this shit, and they figured out a way to get popular opinion tilted in their favor so that they could get a modicum of justice. That shit's also not often taught. Wonder why that is? Could it be that folks don't want the proles to know how to organize to get what they should have simply by right of being alive? :chris:

    Yep. That’s the irony.

The usual story (poor old lady who spent all day on her feet and just wanted to sit) IS ALREADY the white washed version of history. It already erases the organizing (and some times radical organizing) that went into making these events happen.

The wrong time/wrong place narrative reduces the agency of the black folks (with some allies) and the critical role of not-always-appreciated-by-normie-whites-even-today tactics of the Civil Rights Struggle.

Hell, I didn’t even learn about SNCC until college.

But even the whitewashed version is apparently too much for some snowflakes.

Was very worried before it aired, but the Doctor Who episode around it was nicely done, making it clear how organized a protest it was, and taking the choice of having the villain of the episode literally just motivated by racism.

One of the problems with having to have the flawless victim is the lack of critical thinking in the moderates. The right is always going to look for an excuse to demonize the black guy like they did with Treyvom Martin. They tried like hell to make that poor kid into a thug, and for the most part the moderates did resist. However, when it came to george floyd I had to do a lot of asking moderate people if there was any excuse to execute a guy like that because he used drugs and passed off a bad twenty. Just because Floyd did some drugs and gave a bad twenty does not give the cops the excuse to cuff him and then execute him in front of people by kneeling on his neck.

Even in the case of Treyvon we still have to push back to this day because some righties still want to claim he deserved to be stalked and killed in his own community because of george zimmerman. If Zombie were still here he I am sure I would be sparking another round of whitesplaining why that kid needed to be hunted and killed by some fucking racist. I might still end up sparking that same old tired lie by mentioning the name.

The list we know of is long enough. I can't imagine how many brown, GLBT, and women you have harmed in your life. We know it is there. You show us every chance you get.

You do not even respond to me because I kick your fucking ass and you don't like the reality that you can't fuck with me back. I own you, without effort and I know you read what I say. You are reading it right now because you are a malignant narcissist. You cant help it, so you block it out of your universe and pretend it doesn't exist.

Other people see it. You can't stop that. Your character is so awesomely fantastically fabricated.

the real question is what do you do of any merit... but we'll skip past that for now.
why do you presume the repercussions are personally directed at you rather than say, a failed government bureau or the offending corporation and it's funding/profits?

Much like the war every American insists they wouldn’t choose to pay for, reparations are something the US government will need to address if we somehow make it through the next 50 years without a complete collapse in society. The question isn’t if we should, rather how to go about it.

Oh and who filing all these complaints? Is it a groundswell of concerned parents across the state?

    Nope. Two activists:

Florida schools got hundreds of book complaints — mostly from 2 people

The topics came up again and again in hundreds of book complaints received by Florida school districts over the last year.

    Indoctrination. Pedophilia. The LGBTQ+ agenda.

Those who submitted the complaints say the books in questioncan harm children, and they want them removed from school libraries.

    ….

About 600 of the complaints came from two people — a Clay County dad and an Escambia County high school teacher.

The data illustrates how a tiny minority of activists across the state can overwhelm school districts while shaping the national conversation over what books belong on school library shelves.

Of the roughly 1,100 complaints recordedin Florida since July 2022, more than 700 came from two counties — Escambia in the western Panhandle and Clay near Jacksonville. Together the two districts make up less than 3% of the state’s total public school enrollment.

“We have probably spent more resources on Bruce than anyone else in the history of the school district,” said Roger Dailey, Clay County’s assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. He said Friedman contacts the district nearly every day. Dailey received two messages from Friedman while on a phone call with the Times.

“I’ve had weeks totally hijacked by this book thing,” said Dailey, who personally reviews each of the complaints received by the school district — a task that typically takes 10 to 15 hours per week.

    https://www.tampabay.com/news/educa...gett-parental-rights-sold-patricia-mccormick/

And all the complaints get sent to the state to compile and set out state guidelines.

This is what happens when you elect Republicans. The craziest of the crazies are put in control.

no... I really mean what merit is there in your existence other than being a boil on the ass of the species.

so what if it's tax money... you're already paying it to something that you say doesn't exist to your benefit.

Not sure why you think I shouldn't my job find that meaningful or satisfying? It helps a community and individuals, pays decently, and honestly earns me some credibility... mostly on my terms.

Both here and IRL, all it seems you do is push buttons. It's an amusing distraction, but I also still play video games from the 90s.

It's funny how when the Kyle's Mom types go after swearing and rock n' roll, the UA's of the world see them for what they are; but make it anti-LGBT, they're right on side putting the v-chip in Cartman.

It really does raise an alarm when they're not allowed to read from those books at a school board meeting. If there's nothing questionable in there, it shouldn't be a problem.

It's gotta be fear. Gotta be something denigrating. Can't just be a reasonable objection to secretly exposing someone's kids to graphic sexual content. That's the parents' job to moderate, but they can't make informed decisions when these things are deliberately hidden.
